Where is the location of the soundboard in a live show?

Is it right below the stage or somewhere in the back - I noticed at stadium shows they have this tower with lights in the middle of the field, but is that just for the lighting or is some of the sound mixed in the back too?

Usually, that's where the soundboard is too. In stadium and arena shows you often see the soundboard on the floor, like an island. For most club shows this is also true, with the soundboard being somewhere on the floor to the back. The reason for this is that the sound engineer has to hear well what's going on on the stage. The sound engineer has to mix everything in such a way it has the biggest impact on the audience.

C ya!

Its for both actually. The main board and the main lighting control are at the desk at the back of the arena/stadium. On the outside Zoo shows and Popmart the desk was sort of half way up on the floor, opposite side from the B stages (which was on opposite sides for Zoo and Popmart). For Elevation it was typically dead center on the floor in the back, sometimes it was off to one side or the other but in the back completely.

They also have board moniters under the stage on both sides, the techs use this to moniter the individual instruments typically but the main mix comes from the board out on the floor for the reasons Popmartijn indicated.
