What kind of B-Sides can we expect from NLOTH?

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.

For magnificent, we have the Justice remix of Boots, and a rumoured Magnificent remix from BEP's will.i.am that Bono supposedly loves (can't remember the source)...I hope there is more B-sides, as much as I love remixes, some real B-sides would be nice too.

Well, we have to find out yet which song is TBA on Mag's single. I mean, they must be hiding this for some reason, right? :hmm::hmm:

It's not a song... it's an acronym for the title (probably) of U2's next album, Songs of Ascent

As long as we continue to see remixes and live tracks, then it remains a good sign that the new material is under wraps for a new album/ep release. Of course, I would welcome new songs on the B-side, but I'd rather see the new album come to fruitation in the next 8-10 months.

None. They wouldn't squander anything they see as worthwhile on something as antiquated as a single. Bring on SOA.

(Anyway it's more cost effective than picking up a three part import single or some such silliness)

I do miss the days of collecting sweet singles with great bonus material, but I will gladly do without them if it means another record in a year.

If the NLOTH singles dont have B sides on them then I think SOA project will be completed in alloted late 2009 or early 2010 timeline.

Ya, but Achtung Baby had a few good B-Sides and they still managed to release Zooropa a year later while touring....

why not another good Elvis Presley cover song? that would be cool...they should be able to hammer one of those out. How about 'Viva Las Vegas'?
"This is the song that Viagra stole from Elvis and we're stealing it back?" Somebody needs to steal it back, that's all I'm sayin'.

Dont get me wrong I would love B sides for NLOTH.I just feel that it's more realistic for SOA to come out within a 8-10 month period if only a few or no B sides are released with the NLOTH singles.

people say that but there are still people out there buying singles. Teenagers are into 7" singles and with any band there's always people out there wanting to hear any extra material there is.

I think it's more accurate to say U2's reign as a great B-sides band is dead. Possibly. This decade has been pretty terrible. There were THREE 'proper' b-sides excluding countless remixes and live tracks out of five singles off the last album, and two of them were covers.

I'm all for them holding back original songs in case they can use them later but come on, if that's what they were doing last time then it wasn't really worth it as most of The Bomb's singles (as a collection of tracks) were pretty bad as a result and we waited 4 1/2 years for another album.
And now it looks like we're not going to get any original B-sides as a result of Songs Of Ascent being a possible home for them, meaning they'll spend longer tweaking and fucking with songs, which they may well end up deciding they can't take any further and could have been used as B-sides earlier on. Then NLOTH's singles will just be another collection of remix/live discs.

I'm all for being proved wrong with the third single though.

I don't even see physical copy of singles for sale anymore here in the states. The cost was always pretty ridiculous for singles and now the day of iTunes what's the point.

Yes there will always be fans that want to hear more, but the truth is, it's not worth it for the bands anymore, it's easier just to wait till you have a bunch left over and release a b-sides album.

I can't think of any band I follow that has released a proper single with new b-sides in the last 4 years or so...

My guess is NO new songs, just more album tracks and a Xmas double A side:

Boots (Feb) = alternate version of No Line on the Horizon
Magnificent (May) = live version of Breathe
Crazy Tonight (Aug) = live version of Stand Up Comedy
UnKnown Caller (Nov) = I Believe in Father Christmas

i'm just surprised it's taken this long to get a second single out. compared to other acts U2 are a bit...I dunno, slow perhaps. reading this...

it's written like U2 are some trailblazing band with their finger on the pulse wanting to keep with the times when they're actually still releasing multi-format singles (in some territories, i realise what BVS said about physical copies being a bit scarce in other countries) and even then it takes them an age to put it out. edit - i realise your post probably didn't mean that, but it got me thinking. Don't mean to instantly label you. apologies.

I thought a band as big as U2 who want to stay current and all that would be grabbing digital releases by the throat and getting 'Get On Your Boots' out on iTunes as soon as they could yet as far as I knew it was on US iTunes only while over here we had to wait ages for the single to come out. Now there's been a massive wait for a second single and the B-sides aren't even worth getting. Not even justice can make Get On Your Boots worth getting a single with the remix on the b-side.
