U2 will take to the stage at next month’s BRIT awards, performing their new single 'Get On Your Boots'.

The band, who have racked up seven BRIT awards, are the second act to be confirmed for the show, which takes place at London’s Earls Court on February 18.

The Pet Shop Boys will also be performing after collecting the Outstanding Contribution to Music Award.

Ged Doherty, chairman of The BRITs Committee, said: “We’re thrilled to be able to confirm that U2 have chosen The BRITs for their first global TV performance on their new album.

“Their addition to the line-up for this year’s show makes it possibly the best we have ever had.”

Bono, The Edge, Adam Clayton and Larry Mullen Jnr got together to form U2 in 1976, and have sold more than 140 million albums since.

'Get On Your Boots' is the first single from their new album, 'No Line On The Horizon', which is their first record in more than four years and will be released in the UK on March 2.

Kylie Minogue, James Corden and Mathew Horne are rumoured to be hosting The BRITs 2009, and nominations will be announced at London’s Roundhouse on January 20.
