I am not that close, 25 miles plus away.

i am trying.. i have my first day of work at my new job on the 19th. I am talkin to the spouse about it now.. The problem is figuring out how to get down there. Not sure what metro lines are running we certainly can't drive all the way into the city that's for sure. I need to find out what is closed and open road wise.

Yeah, I'm in the MD suburbs, and I'm really torn. Would like to see it, but I really don't want to be anywhere near the madhouse DC is going to be that week. Weather will end up being a major deciding factor, especially since it says it will be broadcast live anyway.

Beyonce, Bono, The Boss part of Obama concert - Music- msnbc.com

Should be excellent! :D I have no clue what he'll sing... A Beatles or Lennon song would be awesome, in my opinion.

I seriously think nothing would be more perfect than the Beatles' "Blackbird," which was written in homage to the U.S. civil rights movement. Bono sung a snippet of it at the end of "Beautiful Day" at Live 8, too. Check out the lyrics:

----------------
Blackbird singing in the dead of night
Take these broken wings and learn to fly
All your life
You were only waiting for this moment to arise

Black bird singing in the dead of night
Take these sunken eyes and learn to see
All your life
You were only waiting for this moment to be free

Blackbird fly, Blackbird fly
Into the light of the dark black night.

Blackbird fly, Blackbird fly
Into the light of the dark black night.

Blackbird singing in the dead of night
Take these broken wings and learn to fly
All your life
You were only waiting for this moment to arise,oh
You were only waiting for this moment to arise, oh
You were only waiting for this moment to arise

Are they going to close some of the metro lines for the inauguration? I would think they would want all of them open with that many people in town:confused:

yeah i am sure they are open (not sure what lines they may close) and yes that's how we are gonna try and get in. The metro lines stop running at midnight but I am sure that won't be a problem.. Chaos for sure.. oy.. but hey it's worth a try to get down there.. I know I ain't camping overnight anywheres down there tho.. It's supposed to be in the upper 30s during the day and high 20s at nite.

arg this pisses me off. two of my roommates are going to the inauguration........

i highly doubt they'll play new material considering Bono is the only one performing.

It would be great if Eddie Vedder performed this song. The version he did on his solo tour was unreal.

My favorite Beatles song!!! I would die if Bono sang it.
It also means he will be in the states. :hmm:

And the date of this is the 18th not the actual inauguration mark your calendars. :applaud:

I don't think Bono is taking a side, I think he is "you scratch my back and I'll scratch yours." He is probably setting himself up to ask for a big favor for his causes. I think he sees it as an opportunity more than associating himself with a politician. He probably said I'll show up and sing and in return I would like yadda, yadda, yadda.

I wonder if this is what Larry's apparently all worked up about? I admit I am disappointed in Bono that he'd become involved in this inauguration & its festivities. Why couldn't he wait until after the fanfare to make his move on the new administration? I admire him and certainly don't blame him for using opportunities whenever possible for his causes, but his bi-partisanship should come into play here. I also feel a bit like he is getting in on the band wagon. I'm obviously not an Obama fan. I have to laugh every time I hear people say this inauguration is going to be "so different" and more historic than any other. It's going to be a fanfare indeed and in my opinion an incredible waste of tax payer's money on a celebration beyond any other inauguration. Why?

Nah, remember, Larry and Adam played at Bill Clinton's inauguration in '93. U2's members are all politically liberal, though they are gracious enough to keep this fact hidden from the less inquisitive fans. Bono, especially in his activist years, has toned down the liberal rhetoric considerably, for practical reasons: he needs his crusades for Africa to be bi-partisan.

Hey, it’s Obama-palooza starring Bono, Beyonce, Springsteen…

Hey, what do you get when you have Garth Brooks, Beyonce, Bono, Sheryl Crow, Mary J Blige, Usher, Herbie Hancock, Bruce Springsteen, Shakira, James Taylor, John Mellencamp, and Stevie Wonder all on the same stage?

Well if they’re all singing their own songs concurrently — it’s a giant train wreck. But we’re assuming that’s not going to happen.

Big party

The Presidential Inaugural Committee finally released the names of the big-time entertainers that will kick off the 56th Presidential Inaugural on Sunday, January 18 from 7:00 - 9:00pm (ET).

The event entitled “We Are One: The Obama Inaugural Celebration at the Lincoln Memorial” is so jam-packed with entertainers, you may wonder how the heck are they going to cram it into a two-hour window.

Who knows? But the lineup sounds great.

It’s kind of like a 2009 version of Van Halen’s “Monsters of Rock” tour when they toured with Metallica and the Scorpions (except these bands aren’t invited).

Historical readings

If you’re not into music but prefer historical readings, Team Obama has you covered.

Packed in between the musical selections will be said readings by Jamie Foxx, Martin Luther King III, Queen Latifah and Denzel Washington.

Top notch

Not surprisingly the people putting on the show are pros. Real pros. They aren’t like the guys who you hired to do your high school Christmas dance in the gym.

They nabbed Don Mischer — he’s the guy who put on the opening ceremonies for the 2002 Winter Olympics, the opening and closing ceremonies for the 1996 Summer Olympics, the Emmy Awards, and the halftime shows for many of the Super Bowls (but not the wardrobe malfunction one).

He also unknowingly dropped the f-bomb on CNN in 2004 when the balloons didn’t come down on time at the Democratic National Convention. But let’s not bring that up.

“This is a great opportunity to capture an historic event in a very meaningful setting,” Mischer said in a press release. “We will have the statue of Abraham Lincoln looking down on our stage and a crowd of hundreds of thousands of people lining the mall — a tableau any director would relish.”

Food

Speaking of relish, the food at the Inaugural will be a salute to Abraham Lincoln. We speculated yesterday that this meant five-dollar foot-longs from Subway. We were wrong. That means they will be serving Lincoln-era food.

So does that mean squirrel-on-a-stick or ground beat porridge? Nope. Those invited to the ultra-exclusive Obama luncheon will have seafood stew, pheasant, duck, and sponge cake. Click here to read up on the menu.

HBO

How can you tune in?

Well, as we told you last week HBO has the exclusive rights to the telecast. They are distributing the signal, however, all over the place. This means if you have cable or satellite TV, you can watch it.

If you get TV the old-fashioned way, you may be out of luck.

If the event is called "We Are One," wouldn't it make sense that One will be performed? Either by Bono or all three? It's already been done at an inauguration, but what the hey. It fits perfectly with Obama's message and the occasion.

I'm really glad I have HBO.

even if you don't have a subscription to HBO you'll be able to view it. It's open to all who have cable.

here's a quote from the official site for the inauguration:

HBO will televise the event on an open signal, working with all of its distributors to allow Americans across the country with access to cable, telcos or satellite television to join in the Opening Celebration for free
