Oh well, I just talked to the conference organizer, and it costs almost $400 to go to this conference.

So much for that!

I'll save my U2 money for the tour. Next time, do the U2 conference in a town that people can afford and do it offseason.

Plus our 'rival' @U2 is the official 'media sponsor.'

"The point" of any academic conference can be somewhat obscure; any Lit person will get the same questions -- why do we study Shakespeare, Blake, Whitman, or Thoreau?

Seriously? That's crazy. I've never seen conferences that cost that much, or even half that much. Maybe they did it to scare off all but the really hardcore academics? I was planning on proposing a paper, but I'm not sure I can afford to shell that much out on top of hotel, food, and travel expenses, especially with MLA being clear on the other side of the country this year.
