I’ve put together a list of the top 6400 rock songs from 1950-2012.

removed link - no advertising

These are based on the results of 37 other top rock lists that I got off the internet and then I added the scores for all the songs, which were based upon how often and how high each song ranked on various lists. So these aren’t my personal opinions, and I definitely don’t agree with everything on the list. But I have discovered lots of great songs in putting this together.

Here are the U2 songs that made it onto the list. The Beatles have the most songs in the whole list, but U2 does have the most in the top 100 (eight).

#10: One
#21: With or Without You
#23: I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For
#41: Pride (In the Name of Love)
#42: Sunday Bloody Sunday
#57: New Year's Day
#75: Beautiful Day
#86: Where the Streets Have No Name
#132: Mysterious Ways
#236: Vertigo
#488: Desire
#562: Bad
#586: I Will Follow
#972: Bullet the Blue Sky
#984: One Tree Hill
#1251: Even Better Than the Real Thing
#1275: All I Want Is You
#1307: Elevation
#1614: Walk On
#1672: Angel of Harlem
#1830: The Unforgettable Fire
#2108: Who's Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses
#2444: Sweetest Thing
#2681: Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own
#3347: All Because of You
#3547: In God's Country
#4375: Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me
#4463: Night and Day
#4608: Staring at the sun
#4797: Running To Stand Still
#5296: The Fly
#5410: Stay (Faraway, So Close!)
#6240: Trip Through Your Wire

Swear to god this is someone's alter here and they dont want to admit to having done this! lol

Good job tho!

Disagree. If someone from here made that list, it would be their personal favorite 6400 song, rather than an amalgamation of other people's lists. and smells like teen spirit would not be #1. This person can't even find b&c.

I know lots of people that like both Nirvana and U2, it's not THAT unusual. And I posted in the general discussion area because I thought fans here might be interested in a list that has so many U2 songs in the top 100. I doubt anyone will ever look past the first couple of pages, but oh well, it's there if anyone wants to look.

It's pretty cool, just, wow, quite a bit of info you waded through

And we do have a non-U2 music section, FYI, it's right up above this one, "Just the Bang And Clatter"

Or, of course, the general U2 discussion area is Everything You Know is Wrong.

OK, thanks for letting me know. I didn't see the Bang and Clatter section.

I recently compiled the top 64,000,000,000 rock songs of all-time and interestingly, "Stand Up Comedy" did not make the list.

All Because Of You > The Fly? I sure hope that's not your personal opinion!

Welcome to Interference btw

Ooh, harsh critic
One thing I’ve noticed is that lists from different parts of the world sometimes have the same songs, but sometimes there’s regional variations for what’s popular. I think The Fly is one of those songs that’s a lot more popular in Europe than in North America, but I’m not 100% sure. Anyway, whether a song is ranked 3000 or 5000, it’s all completely subjective, I don’t expect to get too many arguments way down that far on the list.

I'm just curious as to what list Trip would ever show up on in order to even show up on this algorithm? Maybe there was a favorite U2 song that cover bands like to play list(for some reason in the 90's that was a favorite amongst bar cover bands where I was from).

Trip Through Your Wires was actually in my U2 Top 10 for a long time (not any more). Great song.

And while it may not be loved everywhere, I hear it's HUGE in the American Southwest. :)

 I don't think Trip is in my 6400 best U2 songs list!!

Are there even 6400 U2 songs? Heck, are there even a 1000? I wonder if some ubernerd with a lot of time on their hands could make a comprehensive list of ALL released and unreleased U2 songs! Then we would know what is the total count.

Nah but including all the live versions and different versions of the same song(ie album version of Streets, Best of version, single cut etc etc) I got well over a couple thousand. Don't think it'll make it to 6400, but at least 2,500 should be possible.

I was exaggarating, of course. But I was just surprised to see a mediocre song like Trip on that list, while U2's made so many better ones.

List of songs recorded by U2 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

According to this, there are 240. But it includes some covers.

iTunes tells me that, including regular studio releases, DVD audio rips of the live releases, b-sides, rarities, bonus discs, remixes, alternative versions, covers and other official releases (but not including the two "Best of" compilations, U218, live bootlegs or Mary J. Blige duets) I have 708 songs in my U2 collection. Of course, the majority are different "versions" of the same core group of songs, but most have at least something that makes them unique, however small the difference.

Including live bootlegs it's 1,421 songs. Which actually isn't a lot when you're talking about bootlegs, but I'm generally only interested in HQ soundboard/radio/tv broadcasts, etc...not audience boots.

Is it ranked too high? Next time I'll make a top 10,000 list and drop Trip Through Your Wires a few thousand spots

She doesn't like it and she'll be damned if someone else expresses their affection for it w/o her raising an objection to said affection.
