The rumour mill is currently producing talk of U2 visiting Australia, New Zealand, and East/Southeast Asia in late 2019. We've already had proposed setlists in a couple of threads, and there are some of us who will inevitably brainstorm ideas, so let's just have a dedicated thread for them.

If - and it's a whopping big if - this tour happens, how will the band go about it? They haven't been to Australia or New Zealand since 2010 or Japan since 2006. They've never been anywhere else in the region. It will be the thirtieth anniversary of Lovetown (Rattle and Hum being easily U2's best-selling album in Australia), and of course the band have plenty of segments and stage elements they could reuse from IE, JT30, and EI.

Go nuts.

Here's a thought from me for the Australia and NZ shows, aiming to provide a flavour of the three most recent tours and make a nod to Lovetown.

1. The Blackout
2. Lights of Home
3. I Will Follow
4. The Miracle
5. Beautiful Day
(Speech about touring with BB King...)
6. When Love Comes to Town
7. Angel of Harlem / All I Want Is You
(Speech about Greg Carroll...)
8. One Tree Hill
9. Exit
10. Until the End of the World
--- Intermission: HMTMKMKM ---
11. Elevation
12. Vertigo
13. Desire
14. Even Better Than the Real Thing
15. Acrobat
16. The Best Thing
17. Every Breaking Wave
18. Where the Streets Have No Name
19. I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For
20. With or Without You
21. Pride

(Speech continuing the trend of every post-ATYCLB tour of Australia as a "sorry we didn't come here on Elevation" apology tour...)
22. Kite / Stuck in a Moment
23. Love Is Bigger
24. One

Praying for you that they've given up on Get Out by the time they make it over there.

Watch them drop Lights of Home and Love Is Bigger but keep that one.

Did one the recent articles say there would be both arena and stadium shows? Not sure how that would work with U2’s tried and trusted idea of having a base set list.

An arena show could be a lot like I&E but there are obvious elements of that production that wouldn’t translate to the stadium show and therefore you end up with a different set list. How different, who knows?

Or maybe it’ll just be a generic show, production wise, that can be scaled up and down to stadiums and arenas as required.

I’m very interested in the idea of there being arena shows. Would love it if the Australian tour was arenas only. There is no obvious stadium in Sydney so you wonder how much of a bearing that will have.

I really want them to full-on go the Lovetown 30 route. I'm in the States, so it's not like I'll be going to any of those shows, but still, for the Aussies' sake, how cool would it be to hear the R&H deep cuts? Hawkmoon? God Part II? Heartland? I think Axver would cry and it would be an 'all is forgiven' moment for him with the band.

Anyway, setlists...maybe...first half is a brief medley of SOI/SOE material+Acrobat(you guys should get Acrobat), and the second half is the first half of JT+the R&H material?

1. Love Is All/Blackout
2. Lights Of Home
3. Cedarwood Road
4. Raised By Wolves
5. Red Flag Day
6. Acrobat
7. Best Thing
8. Little Things
9. Love Is Bigger
10. 13

11. Streets
12. Still
13. WOWY
14. Bullet
15. RTSS
16. Van Diemen's Land(Edge solo!)
17. Desire
18. Angel Of Harlem
19. When Love Comes To Town
20. Love Rescue Me
21. Heartland
22. One Tree Hill

Encore:

23. Hawkmoon 269
24. God Part II
25. All I Want Is You

Wow what a set list. That’d be brilliant.

For the sake of the casuals, I think it needs a few ‘hits’ such as Elevation, Vertigo and BD, in the first part of the show. Could probably tart up the encore with Pride for the same reason.

One of the rumours did suggest arenas and stadiums, which makes me think the idea of a scalable generic show would be on the money. I'd bet on stadiums for Australia and New Zealand, arenas in (some) Asian markets. They could do arenas in places like Indonesia or Malaysia but not stadiums.

I don't think Sydney's that big a problem really? SFS is a goner and Stadium Australia probably won't be available either, but the city isn't short of stadiums. The SCG or Spotless are right there. NSW cricket should be grateful for whatever compensation they get if a gig at the SCG requires them to play a Shield game at North Sydney Oval, given the compo would probably be higher than the $2.64 they currently get from gate takings!

All will be forgiven... until the next album.

What's weird is I included 6 Achtung songs but not my favourite U2 song (UTEOTW), maybe perhaps because it's associated with I+E of late and I wanted a clean break from that era.

Track 19 is everyone.

Suspect there will be a last-minute change to the opening two tracks though.

That would require being capable musicians who can entertain without falling back on complex visual effects though.

U2 squeezed Dirty Day in to the TIGHT NARRATIVE this year so I reckon I can coax a couple of changes.

We will decide who claws to this country and the circumstances in which they claw

Can U2 come and just play some songs on a crate out front the Sydney Opera House?

They could play random shit and piss off Alan Jones, win-win.

U2 out front the Sydney Opera House on a crate when they had some courage:

1. Desire, dedicated to Fred Nile
2. In God's Country, also dedicated to Fred Nile
3. Even Better Than the Real Thing, dedicated to Lyle Shelton
4. Sunday Bloody Sunday, "kids off Nauru!" chant
5. Who's Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses, with all the dead Melbourne Cup horses projected on the Opera House sails
6. Wire, dedicated to injecting room advocates
7. Exit, dedicated to ScoMo
8. Mothers of the Disappeared, dedicated to the Stolen Generations

U2 out front the Sydney Opera House on a crate now:
1. One, quietly, so as to not annoy Sir Alan
2. 40, but Adam just points at the crowd and lets them sing
3. everyone disperses politely

A remix of Elvis Ate America except it's an endless loop of 'white trash' with projections of Sydney shock jocks
