Liam says a lot of things. Most of them when Oasis/Beady Eye have a new album out, and 99% is about getting in the media by trashing another band.
By that m.o. of his, his comments are, yes, void.

On the other hand, there is ample evidence of U2 and Oasis getting along just fine in 1997, and Noel praising U2 prior to this comment.

So alert the media:Noel Gallagher likes U2. For all who missed it before.
