People keep saying the intro drums are "off," but that is surely intentional.

As I hear it, the guitar (with the slide-intro) is what's off, not the drums. When it's played live it sounds right, but here it sounds completely off and put together in a very lazy way.

at glastonbury was all over the place when the song kicked in i couldnt work out what version they were playing.

That was the Defecto Remix.

At Glastonbury, the slide part of the intro was all well and good, it was when they then kicked into the chord part. And it was Larry. If you listen, Edge is in time with 'his' sample, Larry is out.

It's not the drums that are out, it's the guitar. They've lifted it from the original mix and haven't changed the bpm to match the new mix.

It was suppoest to be the proper 360 version but they messed it up. Willie williams noted it in his tour diary also. Something happened where the glastonbury house dj knocked a computer over just as u2 were about to come on. Theres an actual moment in the song when the sound goes completey dead. It didnt sound great there but they came back strong with the fly
