So I am needing help with a sort of "Introductory" Playlist to make for a friend. She loves current Pop music and some country/rock. She heard Invisible last night and like it a lot and wanted to hear more stuff from U2. I was thinking it would be easier to help her get into it and start liking it if she heard some U2 songs along with some songs from other bands.

Post your playlists of at least 20 songs, with 10 from U2 and 10 from other bands that would be a good list to give to someone to help them start enjoying U2. (I will post mine later, just getting this thread started).

Well I thought maybe to even it out? Doesn't have to be. haha I will change it!

You might not want to do 10 and 10. If you want someone to listen and like, they're going to need a quicker, more repeatable playlist. The best U2 songs to go to are probably Beautiful Day, COBL, Vertigo, WOWY, and perhaps Invisible if she already likes that.

Mash it up with The Script, OneRepublic, Coldplay, The Killers, and perhaps Imagine Dragons if she's into today's pop music. That's my advice.

It's funny you ask I just made a 10 song U2 playlist for my girlfriend. Songs I included...

1) Beautiful Day
2) Invisible
3) I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For
4) With or Without You
5) The Sweetest Thing
6) Where the Streets Have No Name
7) Pride
8) Vertigo
9) Mysterious Ways
10) One

No big surprises here, but for a U2 novice, it works. She likes it.

New Year's Day
A Sort of Homecoming
Streets
All I Want Is You
Until the End of the World
The Fly
Zooropa
Stay
HMTMKMKM
Beautiful Day

If that doesn't get their motor running, they're hopeless anyway.

Bands that sound like U2 are usually pretty awful, but the Jezabels, M83 and Arcade Fire hit that epic sweet spot.

U2 is more important than that. Have her slowly listen to the catalog in chronological order. Tell her the sonic landscapes change approx every 3 albums.

You guys all seem to think that if you tell someone to listen attentively to 2-15 hours of music they just will.

Take the context. Stuff like October or TUF or Boy doesn't belong here. That's stuff you learn to love. This is about pop U2. This is WOWY. Beautiful Day.

I just made my girlfriend one 13 songs though.

1. Streets (Single Mix)
2. Beautiful Day
3. Crazy Tonight
4. Invisible
5. Mysterious Ways
6. Angel of Harlem
7. One
8. City of Blinding Lights
9. Vertigo
10. Two Hearts Beat As One
11. Wild Horses
12. I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For
13. With or Without You

As many have pointed out - this top 10 would really depend on what style of music your friend prefer.. U2's music varies depending on the decade... Songs included in my top 10 In no particular order) would be:
- The Fly
- Actobat
- Stay
- Where the streets have no name
- One
- Running to stand still
- Love is blindness
- Vertigo
- Bad
- New Year's Day

10 songs to get someone to KNOW U2?
It's easy to go with the hits, but U2 is more than the hits, I think.
It has to be a mixture.

01 - Where The Streets Have No Name
02 - Vertigo
03 - One
04 - The Unforgettable Fire
05 - New Year's Day
06 - Beautiful Day
07 - With Or Without You
08 - Zooropa
09 - Like A Song
10 - Mofo

The last 3 are for mental blowing, for her to say "they can play like that as well? Is this the same band?"

But I really can't imagine Invisible is the FIRST U2 song she has heard. How old is she? Maybe she already knows some songs, or some ones she doesn't even know they're theirs
