It's incredible, a top 10 U2 song for me. Thumping bass and fierce spacey guitar effects, it builds up to a brilliant climax and and has the perfect addition of strings, especially the fade out at the end is breathtaking.

For top 10 album songs not performed live I'd go something like

Slug
Heartland
Beach Sequence
This Is Where You Can Reach Me Now
Fez-Being Born
When I Look At The World
Always Forever Now
Drowning Man
Promenade
The Playboy Mansion

I'm sure I've missed some.

AFN is definitely one of the most overlooked songs in the U2 catalog. Absolutely incredible , I wish they could still make understated beauties like this.

Good list. I wish they'd just break out at least a couple of these out for a show or two next tour.

Heartland for a LT30 tour after they played RHMT last year and Acrobat this year? Sure, why not..

I'd almost categorically rule out those more atmospheric/ambient tracks from ever being played live, but this is the same band that played Your Blue Room on a stadium tour.

I agree, that would be amazing, along with giving Pop a second chance live. A Pop-heavy tour with some Passengers would be a welcome surprise.

I've always thought Always Forever Now would make an awesome intro to HMTMKMKM. Even if they do it in an abbreviated two or three minute form, it'd throw hardcore fans a bone, build tension leading into a massive hit, and generally dominate the fuck out of the set.

Always Forever Batman!

hehehe

So cruel. Heartland. The Wanderer.

(off more recent, will they ever play SUC ? )

I remember back in the summer of 1995, when I first became a U2 fan, there was an interview with Bono. He said the next U2 album wouldn’t be out until 1996 (HA!) and that it was to be called “Always Forever Now”.

I was shocked to see that was a song title when I bought Passengers.

I've always envisioned it as the perfect closer for a hypothetical Passengers Tour 1996(touring OS1, and where they only pre-Achtung material is Streets, as that was their mindset during ZooTV).

Imagine this setlist...

1. United Colours
2. Hold Me Thrill Me Kiss Me Kill Me
3. Daddy's Gonna Pay
4. Zooropa
5. Lemon
6. Numb
7. Your Blue Room
8. A Different Kind Of Blue
9. Until The End Of The World
10. The Fly
11. Even Better
12. Babyface
13. Who's Gonna Ride
14. The First Time
15. Beach Sequence
16. Miss Sarajevo
17. Slug
18. Where The Streets Have No Name

19. Dirty Day
20. Mysterious Ways
21. One
22. Stay
23. Always Forever Now

A hypothetical Passengers tour  man what a cool idea. I don't think I've seen it mooted here before. I'm gonna have a stab at this when I'm more awake.

What if you had to include every Passengers song in some form?

4. Even Better Than The Real Thing
5. Mysterious Ways
6. One
7. Corpse (These Chains Are Way Too Long) (snippet) / Until The End of the World
8. Numb
9. (edge karaoke) Elvis Ate America :yuck:
10. Stay
11. One Minute Warning (snippet) / Lemon
12. Theme from The Swan (snippet) / Hold Me Thrill Me Kiss Me Kill Me
