Don't Open the Door--It's a POLITICIAN!

I was just in the kitchen with my oldest son, starting to make dinner, when the doorbell rang. I went to get it, and was maybe 3 feet from the door when my 4-year-old daughter darts in front of it and shouts, "Don't open it--it's a POLITICIAN!" She meant a political campaign worker--our neighborhood's been overrun with them lately; she'd spotted the telltale clipboard and stack of flyers through the window, and knew from experience that more often than not their "visits" end with us muttering ungratefully under our breaths as we close the door (assuming we open it to begin with--she's probably also noticed that doesn't always happen, either). As it turned out, this particular visitor was actually with a local citizens' group devoted to state energy policy issues, not a campaign worker. She'd heard my daughter's dire warnings through the door and was laughing her ass off when I opened it.
Guess we're kinda giving the kid the wrong idea huh?
