See a ligament specialist? Sure no prob - 3 year waiting list

I kid you not. 3 years. I hear people sing the praises of Canada's health system and to a point its true. Everyone has health coverage (at least in Ontario which is all I can speak to). But as soon as you need to see a specialist its near impossible. Had an MRI scan which took 6 weeks.
Doctor suggested going to see a specialist as she thinks I will need an operation. Rang up as I had not heard anything for 2 months and I am still on a crutch, limping around as if I have a stone stuck in my shoe. When I explained situation to the specialist PA, she laughed for 10 seconds before telling me the waiting list is 3 years. 2 years if its an emergency. How can an emergency be a 2 year wait!?
So scrapped that idea. Going to try to find someone else. Wonder is it possible to go private - esp. as I have health coverage from work as well as additional coverage from Jody's work?
