What songs would you like U2 to play at Live 8 ?

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.
If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
I read on the atu2 spoiler that the show would open with U2 and Paul McCartney singing Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Heart's Club Band, and then U2 would sing Beautiful Day.

(I haven't decided whether I believe this or not yet)

I really hope they play:
Beautiful Day
Pride - (because they didn't get to play it last time)
Crumbs
Walk On (with halleluiah's  of coarse!)

Thank God Bono did drag out "Bad" at the first Live Aid - if he hadn't gone for the spectacular version of "Bad" we and the world would of got to see a mediocre "Pride" and the band wouldn't be were they are today. My 4 picks would be as follows...
Love and Peace or Else
Bad (10 minute plus version with snippets)
Crumbs From Your Table
Like A Song/40
O.K. a bit unrealistic...how about this...
Bad (10 minute plus version with snippets)
One
Please
Bullet/Running
O.K. still not going to happen.
Heck, I'll be ecstatic if they do "Bad"!!!!

1. Lemon
2. Big Girls Are Best
3. Party Girl
4. The Playboy Mansion

I know you're probably joking, but I would love that, for real...ending with "then will there be no time for sorrow..." The Playboy Mansion is so underrated. And come on, how fucking awesome would it be to see U2 do Lemon again?! God. That setlist would rule.

And I agree with liamcool, NOT PRIDE. That song is probably not even in my top 50, it's certainly not in my top 25...it's a good song but it's been DONE TO DEATH!!

What I want to see and think would be appropriate:

1. Crumbs From Your Table
2. Sunday Bloody Sunday
3. Please
4. Where the Streets Have No Name
5. Bad

That would bring the house down. Debut of a song that should have been played every show this tour. SBS-->Please-->Streets would be like one long orgasm of a song...and then Bad after it. With snippets of like 25987 songs, including Walk on the Wild Side, because that rules.

What I want to see and would have nothing to do with the actual event but would probably be the best thing ever:

1. Achtung Baby
2. Zooropa
3. Pop

The whole albums...as three really really really EXTREMELY long songs :D

Yes, yes, oh god, yes. Best. Idea. Ever. I get all giddy just thinking about those three magnificent pieces of art.

:hyper:

In my perfect world they would play
1. When i Look at the World
2. The First Time
3. Dirty Day
4. Love is Blindness (with long outro)

In the real world they will probably play
1. Vertigo
2. Sometimes
3. Streets
4. Beautiful Day

And i can't wait because i've NEVER heard THOSE songs before

1)Beautiful Day.
2) Streets
3) One
4)Bad
5)Crumbs...or maybe Maricle Drug

Thats what I think they will play, probably not in that order, but those songs will most likely be played.

Don't dream...

I've said it enough...

Beautiful Day
Pride
Where The Streets Have No Name
One
Crumbs

U2 are the "QUEEN" of this Live 8... and Queen played like 6 songs in 85...
Besides... They already have those 3 songs in their blood (Pride-Streets-One), Bono said CRUMBS for Live 8 (And you know he meant it), and the only "spoiler" so far is Beautiful Day... and even knowing that, I'd take out Beautiful Day...

But you and I know... it WILL be a ver, very Beautiful Day

Sgt Peppers
BD
Pride
Streets
One
CRUMBS

then maybe some PITNOL and Vertigo2

Music aside, this has caught my attention:

'As a compromise, Bono and U2 will join McCartney for the opener, sporting colourful miliatary garb as seen on The Beatles' Sergeant Pepper album cover. '

:giggle:

They won't play streets, because they need the whole light thing in order to get the maximum out of that song.

My guess:

Vertigo
Beautiful Day --- MLK
One

And, if they're really in a melancholic mood, they'll add Bad :wink:µ

My personal favourites:

Vertigo
Until the end of the world
Sunday Bloody Sunday
Please (Popmart version)

..Do you guys really think a song like Vertigo is appropriate for the event?

I mean, sure, it's a good song. But I'm not sure that it's the type of song that they should be playing to promote AIDS awareness for Africa. You know?

I know, but it's their "tour & album song" so I think they won't let go the opportunity to promote it. Also, it's a song the younger fans know. A lot of the G8-people don't know Bad. But, don't misunderstand me, it's a great song...

 Oh man, 15 minutes? Damn, and I just bought that 6 hour video.....

They should play Acrobat. No reason really, I just wanna hear that song played live.

1. Where The Streets Have No Name
2. Sunday Bloody Sunday
3. Crumbs
4. Please

If they do Acrobat I will eat my car.

Like them to play

1. Vertigo
2. Beautiful Day
3. All I Want is You
4. Where the Streets Have no Name

Probably will play
1.Vertigo
2.Pride
3.Streets
4.One

what's live 8 about? Africa

"Where the streets have no name" from the vertigo tour:

Bono:"Everyone, from the swamp lands of Louisiana to the high hills of kilimanjaro, from the bridge of selma to the mouth of the nile, Africa, Africa, Africa, the journey of equality moves on, Africa, from MLK's America to Nelson Mandela's AFrica, Africa, Africa

plus, African flags throughout the song

Streets has to be played

"Bad" will get a big pop from the audience
"One" is aboud AIDS, so maybe

And why does London get all the good acts?

Can you have Vertigo2 without Veritigo?

Seriously, I hope they don't play Vertigo. It's not appropriate for the event and it'd be shamelessly plugging the new album. If they're going to plug HTDAAB, then do it with Crumbs, a song actually ABOUT Africa. The world has heard Vertigo enough.

1. Crumbs
2. Beautiful Day
3. Gloria
4. Mysterious Ways
5. Miracle Drug
6. Where the Streets Have No Name
7. 40
