    Songs Most Improved Live

ZooTV's Trying to throw you arms around the world - edge's droning melody is sublime Bad (Stockholm 1992, night 2) Running to stand still into Where the streets have No Name - The harmonica solo fading into the gentle synth that transitions in the powerful opening. My god, still brings tears.

Has One become a 'catch-all' song?

This is a decent analysis however, One does climax, specifically in the live versions. The Rattle and Hum version of ISHFWILF is full of vocal runs, see Bono, et al. I'm not attempting to vilify you, nor am I a Mary J. Blige evanglical. There just seems to be a negative vibe about this...

Has One become a 'catch-all' song?

I find U2 fans to be a dicotomy of super ecclectic and super closed minded folks. The latter are the ones that ultimately give me angst. The Bono / Mary J Blige version of One is a fabulous presentation of the song. It transcends simple rock and R&B and showcases a different spin on a...

    Happy Birthday Brian Eno!

If anyone is interested, Eno has a CD out "Another Day on Earth". The is a fascinating CD as most of the songs were originally recording during the period when "Passengers" was done. Many of the songs feature a heavily vocoded chorus of Enos and contains the etheral ballad, "Under" - which...

Zooropa - I think it might be my favourite album!

Great point about the band's choice to leave some of the songs in their long version. :)

Zooropa - I think it might be my favourite album!

I remember getting Zooropa the day it came out. Lemon had just begun rotation on MTV. I was largely indifferent and quite honestly, put the CD down for a few months as I was 'STILL' digesting Achtung Baby. It wasn't until around late 1994 that I 'GOT' Zooropa. The concepts really started to...

Zooropa - I think it might be my favourite album!

I wouldn't say that. Achtung Baby probably will get that accolade, seeing as how it was indeed the catalyst for Zooropa and even further, Pop.

    Five Most Underrated Songs

TTTYAATW wasn't an anomaly at all. They stuck with the droning melody over muted trip hop loops well into the "All that You can't Leave Behind". You hear alot of that technique on Zooropa and Pop. Heck, you still remnants of this style on "Grace" -- which includes, most notably in comparison...

    Five Most Underrated Songs

The first time - Contains my favorite Bono lyric of all time The Fly - one of Adam's fiercest basslines The Sweetest Thing Elvis Ate America - probably the pinnacle of U2 experimentation and commentary on American stardom. Your Blue Room

    Who produced "The Sweetest Thing"?

Thanks! I had no idea the track dated back so far!!! I love this forum. I've been a U2 fan for almost 17 years and I learn something new everday.

    Who produced "The Sweetest Thing"?

I happen to notice that "The Sweetest Thing" has a distinctly bright quality not really found on U2 projects from that period; late 90s. It definately doesn't sound like a Brian Eno mix or recording. Just curious because this cute little song ranks among my favorite U2 one offs.

    Quick zoo question

You're right, most of the material was taken from the New York shows however, there was footage from a few other shows as well. During the climax of TTYAATW when B shoots the champagne, they show clips from about 5 or 6 shows. The give away was the Satellite of Love performance. Definate a...

    Overdue Live Album

I would love a canonical CD release of the ZooTV tour. That tour contains, by far, all of my favorite performances of the songs I like most. The melodic progression of 'TTYAATW' still gives me chills.

Thank you very much! I'm freakin' new here and didn't have time to parse the entire forum for what seemed to be a legitimate and stimulating question. Thanks again, Gareth. :)

Has One become a 'catch-all' song?

I remember when "One" first came out it seemed to be a tribute to AIDS victims and their struggle. Now, it seems like they kind of, well.. use it for everything well-meaning. Not to take away from it, there are powerful lyrics in the song indictive of strife, hope, fear, hate and love. But I...
