I have only been to 2 U2 shows in my life and I would like to see it dropped. It is good on record but the only time I have liked it live is on Rattle and Hum.

To be honest I think you are suffering from your own intelligence ((a compliment by the way!) In my opinion you are reading far too much into the song.

You know when I say unimaginative I mean that the chorus (of vertigo) is almost what I expected it to be. It isn't bad but then it isn't good either. It is almost like it was the first thing they came up with (not always a bad thing e.g One) and didn't bother putting any more thought into it...

I think it is pretty clear that when anyone is making a statement about the quality of certain music then it is in their opinion. There is really no point in us having this conversation. You know what I said was IMO and so do I. So if you have anything to add why not write that you disagree...

I think the 'theme' of an album only becomes important when you have the tunes to back it up and quite frankly U2 didn't.

Ok I'll give you Yahweh but that doesn't mean overall the album isn't commercial sounding. I think OOTS is very commercial sounding though.

Zooropa and Pop are the ones that have grown on me the most. Whereas ATYCLB and HTDAAB started well but went downhill. Still think my favourite is Achtung Baby (though that was a grower aswell)

I don't think that is the reason at all. For a kickoff I would class WOWY as standout and epic. Do you realise that you're saying they left mercy off the album because it is standout? Do you not think that sounds kind of silly? Especially as HTDAAB and ATYCLB are albums full of singles
