U2/Bono copied military/naval uniforms look from the Associates?

I think Bono copied that Lennon look circa Pop, not Zooropa, which is more like the Who U2 were possibly mocking Keith Moon's propensity for all sorts of outlandish uniforms including Nazi outfits: Moon wasn't the only one, as this pic of the Stones' Brian Jones in SS uniform shows: BTW...

    No-one took up the mantle

Funny that two supposed experts (I'm looking at yoyu Gvox and 65980) would try to correct me on certain facts related to OTW when you get the basics wrong. I can't really blame you for getting it wrong as there is a lot of misinformation about, but don't tell me I'm wrong. FACT The Girl is Mine...

soundscan is US only. The metallica v U2 numbers are worldwide. Source: check the appropriate forum section (Peeling off...) as for Bon Jovi, I forgot to include them, but they were at #72 Bon Jovi - 18.120m (again: soundscan so US numbers.) Please note Bon Jovi actually made it big before U2...

    Courtney Love worked on October?

I always thought October was recorded in a closed off christian commune, and only Adam actually had access to the outside world. He'd fetch them milk and such :shifty: side note... is David ok?

State your case for (song) thread...

-new stuff that begs to be played: Being Born, SUC -rare: Like a Song, Exit, Zooropa, DYFL, YBR -old favs: Bullet, Surrender, Elco, Tomorrow -fits the current tour: Mofo, OTH, Fly, HMTMKMKM come to think of it these coupled with the regular NLOTH songs would make a great setlist: FBB TUF...

    No-one took up the mantle

Let's face it, if you want to rule the world, you'll have to crack the USA, so let's look at the official soundscan album sales ('91-'07. I don't have '08 at hand) We'll take out the country shit: 5 spots in the top 10 (from Garth Brooks #1 to Shania #10) Also disregard oldies (Beatles #2...

Is using fast delay to harmonize in a song considered "plagiarism" of U2...

mind you, lots of amateur guitarists look down on Edge's abilities anyway and deride him for depending too much on his effects. If you go the same route you may find yourself in an even worse position, for being unoriginal AND leaning on tricks. Others may applaud you for figuring out this...

Does it annoy anyone else when people criticize every U2 album after JT as "not U2"?

The irony is that bands like the Stones (especially prior to 1968) mastered a huge variety of styles. The same could be said for the Who, Springsteen and Led Zep. It annoys me as much when it gets said about U2 as when people say this about Hendrix or the Stones. And I hate it when "true metal...

    Will we hear Fez LIve

I don't know about Bono's warm up routine, but I'm guessing that no singer wants to start a 2+ hour show that way. It would be like starting a 10k run with a 100m dash. Having said that I too love Being Born and would definitely like see it make an appearance. For example Acrobat->F/BB->TUF->UC.

Best Song Survivor v2: The Results

Thanks for the hard work Axver. I like the fact that TUF made the top ten, I'm also a bit surprised that some seem to share my appreciation of Being Born and Zooropa ;) Could someone explain the high marks for Kite or ASOH? Did Pride and Bullet the Blue Sky get snubbed because of live...

    Best non u2 song?

The Saints are Coming (Stuart Adamson) Night and Day (Cole Porter) Fortunate Son (CCR) to the OP: Sweet Fire of Love is as much a U2 song as most songs on NLOTH, or anything off Passengers; unlike Testimony, off the same Robbie Robertson album, which U2 collaborated on but didn't get writing...

Where would you rank Bono & The Edge...

I can't speak for whoever put up Blink 182, but I also took songwriting into account, which is why I left off the Who (Daltrey didn't write, it's mostly Townsend) and Metallica (Hammett doesn't write) I also left off Jagger/Richards, as I find Brian Jones' contribution underrated and the Stones...

Where would you rank Bono & The Edge...

I wholehartedly agree with you on U2 and Alice in Chains. Out of all of those "duos" they are the ones that stand out not because of guitar vocal interaction, but because the guitarist is an accomplished singer himself. (listen to Jerry Cantrell's solo albums) GnR, however, is a different...

Best Song Survivor v2: 2000s Semi Final

How about you correct that other mistake and make an eight-way 45% poll with Sweet Fire of Love included. I'm sure it would've polled somewhere in that region anyway.

    NLOTH vs. UF

you seem to have trouble grasping analogies, which is probably why you're not getting the TUF to NLOTH link. All that stuff you wrote about elco getting played loads of times earlier in their career, or TUF getting played on the TUF tour is pretty pointless. I used Elco only as an example of an...

    NLOTH vs. UF

You think it's silly to compare or make the connection between the two albums. I think it's selfevident. U2 are proving me right. I said I'd give 9/10 for TUF (song) and 8/10 to F-BB, but that overall NLOTH is stronger than TUF. But my point is not how much better NLOTH is than TUF, just...

Unkown Caller trying to rip off coldplays lost...

since there are already five songs on NLOTH better than UC, it would seem pretty obvious that there is at least a dozen better U2 songs around from this decade alone. Dozens was probably a bit of a hyperbole on my account. As for other bands, this is more personal, but I can name at least one...

    4th Single from NLOTH

I want them to release Being Born, without the Fez interlude. But I'm guessing it'll be Breathe, it's a bit like the LNOE of this this album and that was released as well. I wouldn't actually mind an edited version of UC, but editing MOS seems sacriligious.
