    Socialism!

On democracy itself... all civic religion aside, is it an end, or a means to an end? Is it worth having without the right to withdraw or secede from a political territory, be it the British Empire, the United States, or the European Union? Is the average voter sufficiently educated to determine...

    Socialism!

It's a semantic argument, thus not the bottom line. Still important in pursuit of discussion. I don't mind the term "social democrat," it seems accurate enough. Collective interests are the focus, and they're decided on through a democratic process. It distinguishes itself from republican...

I'd day this is well within the pre-nuanced definition. https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/socialism

Milton Friedman was a government monopoly road socialist next to 2/3 of "socialist" Sweden, which ranks higher on the Economic Freedom Index than the United States.

    Socialism!

Why not do the same with "democracy" There's plenty of "democratic" elections in history that are rigged and illegitimate. East Germany was called the "German Democratic Republic." Likewise, the Nazi Party advocated for a "socialism" that fell short of a more orthodox definition.

Why settle on a loose one? Terms are coined to be as precise as possible.

    Socialism!

AOC and Bernie... They're quasi-socialistic. They're not "socialists" in the classical sense, demanding that private property is abolished. Their desire for state ownership of industry is relatively minimal by comparison. Hyper-Keynesian, perhaps, redistributionist, undoubtedly.

    A quick thought on NLOTH

The only material I don't care much for on NLOTH is Boots and Cedars. Other than that, I think it's great, though I would have preferred a different drum track on Moment of Surrender.

Starving Time in Jamestown serves as a lesson against Crusoe Collectivism (although "voluntary socialism" is ethically sound in theory). I don't rule out the possibility of counter-examples, but that absolutely comes to mind.

Interesting. I actually agree with the first point. I'd have to think about the others you raised, especially in relation to the link.

Also... would we be wrong to assume that Stormfront types unanimously favor mass extermination? I think it's mischaracterizing to throw that in on my original response. From White Right, it's more stressed that they don't want to live side by side and associate with other races, and want...

The movie White Right: Meeting the Enemy took that chance. I have to say it paid off, as it led some to reconsider their views.

So it's wrong to ask why they take that position? Just punch or ignore them instead? Shame on that pastor who confronted that neo-Nazi, right? Even though it led him to re-evaluate his worldview?

You left out the conditions of the original statement. Those "if/thens" are pretty important, as this demonstrates. Without them, it doesn't reflect my position.

In general, you should be entitled to a fair hearing and a refutation when there is disagreement, not simply dismissed. Let us suppose there are exceptions to most every rule. Stormfront is one of them. Though I think it would be commendable to challenge a Nazi type to a debate with reason and...

There's a lot of misinformation out there, to be sure. Though let's also not forget the Yellow Journalism Era. I'm with you on this much, though I would put Infowars into a different category - It's publically known for wild speculation. That's not to say it's incapable of taking a correct...

"Capitalism" is a sort of nuanced term, especially when one looks to the Industrial Revolution for a definition (as opposed to a historical event). Lockean homesteading theory would differ in that it has always been with us by unowned resources claimed and mixed with the soil. Thus, private...

A lot of these questions go back to saving public face and political calculation. The war wasn't popular. He didn't have political ammunition. Demanding "loyalty" as Wilson did prior to entering WWI set the stage ("If you're not with us, you're against us" should sound familiar enough. He...
