Garth Brooks goal: to overtake the marks set by U2 360 tour

He could only play 5-6 months a year, unless Australia somehow comes thru. His touring method still allows him to perform to theoretically 40,000 people in a single day at the bigger arenas. Selling multiple shows to individual fans clearly seems to be part of his business model. Plus adding...

Garth Brooks goal: to overtake the marks set by U2 360 tour

Garth would only announce 1-3 cities at a time. Fans would travel to a nearby city and wouldn't have any idea if he's coming closer 6 months later, then 12 months later, then 18 months later, then 24 months later.... Garth did 8 arena shows in 5 Australian cities in 1994. 2 in...

    How are the tickets selling?

It still surprises how many fans don't think LN/TM and scalper sites are all in bed with one another. The O2 arena has a Stubhub office on their property. SH and TM computers are tied together(anything on SH will be removed once the bar code is scanned). In 2015 I bought a pairof row 4...

Any chance of any other tour dates in Europe?

U2 may want to renegotiate their exclusive contract a year or so from now since it expires in 2020. TJT and price gouging on this tour certainly puts them in a strong position for the biggest guarantee. Something else to think about, Bono was seen in Vancouver 2015 having lunch with Rampino...

*Rumor* - Larry to retire after E+I tour

Couple months later, do you guys think an AB2021 tour is likely now that the 2 big "dangling carrots" from the album are likely setlist regulars on this tour? That cameraman is part of their crew and travels with them. The Edmonton 97 video leak likely came from a band source since those 2...

The Joshua Tree Tour 2017 Boxscore Discussion

So the 1.1 number was the initial 25 shows being about 50k each, minus the US shows that were slow out of the gate. 25 shows before the 2nd nights, added US cities and the fall dates.

Trying to wrap my head around their 1.1 million tickets sold globally headlines earlier this year, when just the North American numbers are 57,306 short of that number. U2 'Joshua Tree' Tour Sells 1.1 Million Tickets in 24 Hours, More Shows Added | Billboard

The Joshua Tree Tour 2017 Boxscore Discussion

Dallas was 10k short of what other 270 sight line shows had done there. George Strait did nearly 105,000 for his 2014 "in the round" show, 35 more than U2 did on 360. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AT%26T_Stadium#Concerts May 26, 2017 - Arlington, TX - AT&T Stadium GROSS: $6,044,330...

The Joshua Tree Tour 2017 Boxscore Discussion

This was the first time they did a stadium show in 2 PNW cities on a single trip. Vancouver never really had a drop and I know experienced last minute ticket buyers who did not get into the show - without or without all the GA headaches. Both Canadian shows had a couple thousand tickets...

Garth Brooks goal: to overtake the marks set by U2 360 tour

Garth should crack the 360 WW attendance with announcing about 20 more cities, which he could announce. All he has to do is show up.

Tim Sommer rips apart the Joshua Tree.

UF tour was 3% cover songs and Joshua Tour was 10% cover songs. Play so many cover songs at shows was new for U2 and they were doing it INSTEAD of doing more songs from JT. A couple 1987 shows did have 9-10 JT songs, but many were down to 6.

Joshua Tree Tour 2017 - Rumors & General Discussion II

Many here believe U2 have made promises to Live Nation for number of shows and when before their deal is up in 2020. Bono made a couple cynical off hand comment at the first 2 shows. "How was that?" or "Next track please" during JT. Except for Adam, I didn't see any of them break a smile...

Will U2 sell the remaining tickets to make this tour a complete sell out?

While some tour closers do better for U2, it's no guarantee of an automatic sell out in a stadium or arena. Cleveland 2017 would like still be sold out whether or not it's the last North American show.

Joshua Tree Tour 2017 - Rumors & General Discussion II

Before the 2015 rehearsals there was a fan poll of deeper cut songs fans most want to hear. 19 out of 45 were publicly heard in one way or another. Seconds was heard at the 2005 Vancouver rehearsals. 1. A Sort of Homecoming - 80 votes 2. Acrobat - 77 3. Mofo - 73 4. Please - 70 5. Gone - 64...

Will U2 sell the remaining tickets to make this tour a complete sell out?

Aren't there political reasons for skipping Arizona? Even more so than the 6-8 red state shows they are doing in 2017. They've had other North American tour closers that didn't sell out. Even an arena show in 2001(Britney has venue record 2,000 more people than U2 in Miami).

    Ticket "drops"

I think that venue has "standing room only" passes for football and some concerts. Nowhere near the field and crap sight lines.

Tim Sommer rips apart the Joshua Tree.

40% of all the 1987 setlist were JT material. 10% was covers. One Tree Hill was only played at 15% of the shows and Mothers at 6% of those shows. Trip was played at 78% of the shows.

Tim Sommer rips apart the Joshua Tree.

Why else would U2 skip 5 songs from the album in the middle of the tour in Basel, Cologne and Birmingham? Because the show would fall apart with out half baked covers and/or Party Girl? Even the band are on record as being insecure of their own material on that tour. Including one of the 2017...

Tim Sommer rips apart the Joshua Tree.

No one seriously says WAR is the best album by U2. Most U2 fans generally agree JT is in the top 3 albums by the band. Some seriously think it's one of the best albums of 80's but I think that's pushing it a bit. While a couple shows in late 87 had 9 JT songs and Tempe having 10, there's a...

This is NOT what we wanted

So would the idea of promoting a 30 year old album in lieu of more than one new song. I love those 3 songs, but I'd never pick them over hearing a new album/new album tour.
