Global Pandemic Part III: A typical Spring, Just Ask China

Yup, I got the same sense from friends and family over there. Switzerland had a test positivity over just over 20% yesterday. If they can't handle it... This isn't going to end well

US Politics XXVI: Sorry you're not Canada

I don't want him to die but it really needs to be an at least somewhat serious case. If it's just a bit of the sniffles he'll be on stage and tell everyone it's even less serious than the flu. Nothing to worry about it like he always said, take off your masks and get on with it. Ugh

His base must be so confused about how he can suffer from a hoax.

Global Pandemic Part III: A typical Spring, Just Ask China

I'm by no means an anti-vaxxer and get my flu shot every year, but even I have some hesitations about a potential covid vaccine. Development has been crazy accelerated and I do wonder what steps are being skipped. With lower stakes but we've seen research being rushed and even the Lancet...

US Politics XXIV: Your Country Sucks

US Politics XXIV: Your Country Sucks

https://twitter.com/darylsturgis/status/1279202964595499008 Jesus! Every time I think the US can't sink any lower, they prove me wrong.

Random TV Talk IV: We're So Broken Inside

Watch Dark, it's the best thing on Netflix right now as far as I'm concerned. Third and final season was just released.

Global Pandemic Part II: Sequel Escalation

It seems like the perfect storm in the US really. A lack of universal healthcare, likely a large number of undiagnosed chronic conditions, this wild west leftover attitude of the government is out to get me, an individualistic society of extreme capitalism coupled with just about the worst...

Global Pandemic Part II: Sequel Escalation

Agreed. Though I'm not very hopeful on that front either, we don't even know how it kills us. It'll take a while to find an effective treatment. Our track record is not great either, though every once in a while there's a breakthrough like the new(ish) Hep C cure.

Global Pandemic Part II: Sequel Escalation

That is only possible if there is some sort of immunity with this virus which we still don't seem to know. If turns out to be true that the virus mutates more quickly than anticipated and that different strains cause different viral loads and severity of illness, then we won't run out of hosts...

Global Pandemic Part II: Sequel Escalation

I'm not an expert by any stretch of the imagination but the different strains and different viral loads sound like bad news for vaccine developments? Fascinating if terrifying thread/article, thanks for sharing.

US Politics XXI: Old Man 3-Way

I do completely agree with you but I don't think the West will be in any position to dictate anything. It's China that is sending aid now, it's China that will likely have an economy bouncing back quickly while the rest of the world slows and depends on goods from Asia. I've always thought we...

    global pandemic

Oh I know. At the current rate, the US will have well over a million cases by the time Trump wants to pack the churches. What I meant to get at is that if there's a plain crash or something with a couple of hundred of dead Americans it's a day for national mourning, if it's 2000 covid19 deaths...

    global pandemic

It's funny how the nearly 3000 dead on 9/11, which is really just a blip when one has a bit of perspective apparently, was reason enough to put countless lives in danger and invade countries.
