I was wondering, and this in itself can be considered somewhat narcissistic, if not jokingly so, in an oft self deprecating, partially drunken fashion. But how, and yes I mean this, how do I convince someone that listening to Tom Waits is a good idea? Now the person in question is a good friend...

I like music... No really, in general, the previous statement is true. I really like it. Although in saying that, due to market fragmentation and a supreme variety of genres, I simple cannot comprehend this thread. I like music... The discus, less so.

‘Abattoir Blues/ The Lyre of Orpheus’ It’s the only album(s) that I wouldn’t feel unerringly daft about regarding as the best of the decade. Although in truth it’s simply my favourite. ‘NLOTH’ however could end up supplying one or two of my favourite songs of the same time period. High enough...

This is a weeping song, a song in which to weep… I can already feel the anticipation, initial enjoyment, and subsequent suicidal tendencies that shall soon come our way.

I thought it sounded just a tad like ‘The Refugee’, but then again my hearing has been somewhat awry of late. Although in saying that, no, I couldn’t possibly… It’s a decent tune.
