Shame tickets for the European leg hadn't been released - it would of made the difference in the UK. I read that the gap between #5 and #1 was 18k albums.
Over 10 years without a hit single doesn't help. Promo in the UK has been very weak, a very low key release. I really hope that the BBC show boosts sales of the album.
I expected a top 3 chart position in the UK at least. Very disappointed.
Give it a rest. What has that got to do with SOE's chart performance?
UK promotion has been pretty weak from what I've seen. I expect a boost after the BBC show is televised.
Attempting to be realistic it could look like this:
1. The Miracle of Joey Ramone
2. Vertigo
3. Every Breaking Wave
4. Walk On
5. Elevation
6. Sometimes you can't make it on your own
7. City of Blinding Lights
8. Invisible
9. Ordinary Love
10. Magnificent
11. Get on your boots
12. Window in the...
Chart Highlights: U2 Debuts Biggest AC Hit Since 1992 With 'Every Breaking Wave' | Billboard
Isn't it about time this was properly released? A double single perhaps, album version and live acoustic?? Do it now. NOW!
It's all about the taxes. There were always haters before, but it tipped the neutrals (vast majority) into the haters camp.
It made U2 look hypocritical and has undermined Bono's credibility as an anti poverty campaigner.
That is really disappointing. I was hoping this week would lead up to the next single release/ tour announcement.
This will delay things and stop the momentum that's been gathering....
Not bad. Hopefully those not too familiar will not notice Bono forgetting the words in the second chorus
I much prefer the album version, but it seems that the general consensus is that acoustic plays best with the masses. Better get this out as a single quick.
Even though I don't think it's the best crafted song on the album, California (no end to love) is the one I've played the most because it's just so joyful...it would make the strongest single on the album, a top down, drive in the sun track.
1. California
2. Iris
3. The Troubles
4. Song for...
California would have been the best single for this album...different but really catchy and breezy. Plus it would have worked for the apple launch in...California.
I don't there will be any other singles from this album...what's the point? Everyone has the tracks for free!
Unless one of the...
Wow! I just never thought U2 would ever do anything like this...an entire album for free!! 5 years hard work and they release it for free! Amazing.
And it sounds good....a proper album, personal, not looking for hits, but some great tunes, Every Breaking Wave....wow!
U2 still have a lot of UK fans but I don't think that there has been a fresh intake since 2000.
The anti Bono thing is big over here. Very big. I think that there used to be a conscious separation with the band and Bono, but since the tax 'scandal', Edge's Malibu Paradise etc., the whole...
My experience was very similar - I'm 31 and got into U2 with ATYCLB. That was a huge album for me and the general perception of U2 was that they were a cool band. They were seen as kind of the thinking person's band at school, and whilst at uni I had a great time discovering their whole back...
