I think this quote is a big clue as to why they are in Morocco...

There are strong links and similiarities in many folk musics - a direct link between Morocco and Ireland seems a little unlikley (though not impossible due to sea trading routes). Certainly Irish drums(bodrhans) have comparrisons with those of northern africa and there are therories that it...

new macca album: memory almost full.

I've heard some of this - good for him for making records and if people want to buy them, so be it. WOuld much rather hear a new Lennon record though: MAcca just doesnt have the edge, and the music now is just a bit... boring. ITs not dire - I think you have to be over a certain age to really...

What's everyone's favorite Lennon (solo) songs?

I must admit that while I know the BEatles catalogue too well (who doesnt) I dont know Lennons stuff at all. Looking forward to getting the Amnesty INstant Karma record as a way to get into it. Ms. Joshua is a big fan of Yoko's stuff - great arthouse rock if you like that kind of thing. I've...

    Just a thought:Bono in politics?

I think its great hta Bono uses his fame to highlight issues, but I dont think he has what it takes to be in politics - there are many people better suited and with a deeper udnerstanding. Having said that there is something to be said for having someone without that knowledge in such a job -...

    Darfur crisis on Google Earth

Good one verte76. Theres also the INstant Karma project of which almost every penny will be reaching Darfur - looks like being a great album all round (aside from the U2 track which goes without question!). I've heard something along the lines that Amnesty did a deal with Itunes so that Itunes...

    I saw the U2 3D trailer today!!

I saw the rolling stones tour (there is just one looong tour) at an Imax - it was great, apart from your close ups on Micks face are a little bit scary! THe best thing about Imax theatres is they have great sound systems - worth going just to hear the film... Anyone seen definite release...

U2 Fans - more politically aware than most rock fans? If so why?

I wonder what people think about this - Earlier U2 stuff is perhaps more overtly political, but as U2 have come to be a bigger band Bono has helped keep a political angle to the band, despite less overtly political music being made. How much has Bono's recent work helped to politicise...

    Nintendo DS Lite

Whats good about them is you dont play for quite as many hours as on a bigger unit - helps to keep gaming down to a minimum... not to say its not addictive! Best games are the ones which make use of the stylus. Kirby was a great platform one...

Is Big Brother still running in the US?

    Darfur crisis on Google Earth

Im not sure sanctions is the solution here - the Darfur conflict is much more complicated than punishing the state. The US has two crude modes in foreign policy: all out war and sanctions. What is needed in East Africa and the Middle East is "peacebuilding" - negotiations, compromise, talking...

    Book Banning In Prison

Reminds me of this quote: ""There are worse crimes than burning books. One of them is not reading them. "

Zbigniew Brezinski on Charlie Rose tonight on PBS

He is an intersting character - a staunch anti-communist who effectivey started the war between USSR and Afghanistan. Certainly he is not scared of using state violence as a tool of foreign policy. This makes his criticism of Bush all the more pertinent - highly recommen his book "out of control".
