There's also that story of Daniel Lanois locking Peter Gabriel in the studio because everyone was fed up of him not finishing the lyrics on the 'So' album, and then forgot about him while they all went off and had dinner.
It's a youtube thing, I've seen it happen with different artists channels too. It seems youtube just vacuums up any version of a song from any old shite compilation album and shoves it on their channel.
I wonder what they could have done with a track like 'Love Is Blindness'. I know we've had Edge's accoustic version already, but hearing this almost Bond-esque cover recently I kinda wanted to hear what it'd sound like in the vein of 'Two Shots of Happy, One Shot of Sad'.
U2’s ‘Songs Of Surrender’ Becomes Band’s 11th UK No.1 Album, First Since 2009
The new release outsells the competition more than two to one.

In terms of songs I kinda wanted to hear alternate versions of were Mofo; based on Bono's comments in a recent interview, being more of a Led Zeppelin-esque track. And One Tree Hill; but with the lyrics being completely about Greg Carroll, without the Víctor Jara part which always felt...
They clearly didn't do this album to "get popular" again, though it is nice to read stuff like this:
"U2 outselling rest of the Top 5 combined on the way to 11th Number 1 album with Songs of Surrender
Songs of Surrender would be the iconic rock outfit's first Number 1 LP in over 10 years."...
Being able to look back and maybe recenter yourself is the right of every artist. The fact it's taken U2 so long to get to this point is a testament to how strong they always were as musicians and songwriters, a fact SOS proves, and demolishes the criticisms about how they were all just audio...
There's definitely some that slowly worm around and past some of the originals so far. I won't say this is a pared-down list of my faves, but this shortened tracklist of 20 is working for me on repeated listens so far.
