Please help me out! What U2 track/s is this demo reminding me of?

I believe this is the one I was thinking of!

Please help me out! What U2 track/s is this demo reminding me of?

I swear that I've heard a couple of U2 b-sides before with a very similar vibe to this, 1982-1987 timeframe. Joshua Tree b-sides? Unforgettable Fire, October era? I'm thinking Deep In The Heart, Beautiful Ghost, Race Against Time, J.Swallow, Viva Davidoff (obscure Passengers OS1 b-side), as...

Have U2's 21st century releases done irreparable damage to their legacy?

Not the chart-chasing obsession, but U2's current emphasis on songwriting craft > sonics was triggered by Rick Rubin. From Wikipedia: "The band also took to heart advice that Rubin had given them during recording sessions with him in 2006. Rubin pointed out that the group used unique sounds...

I'm guessing you must've ran out of time to add: 9. Cedarwood Road 10. Sleep Like A Baby Tonight 11. The Troubles Because for me, those 3 alone are almost better than anything they've released since 1997.

Bono on HTDAAB: "it f-ing annoys me."

Personally, I kind of have to agree with him. There are no songs that I actively dislike or think are genuinely awfully, yet the album doesn't quite gel and flow together as cohesively as many of their previous albums. It's probably one of U2's strongest records from a songwriting perspective...

Have U2's 21st century releases done irreparable damage to their legacy?

I think it's a good album, but it's definitely not among my personal favourites. I like the sincerity of Miracle Drug, but it's just so sweet, it gives me a toothache. Love And Peace is another I'd drop, does nothing for me. A Man And A Woman is a nice departure for U2, but it feels like a...

Bono on HTDAAB: "it f-ing annoys me."

Bono said of HTDAAB: "[t]here are no weak songs. But as an album, the whole isn't greater than the sum of its parts, and it f–ing annoys me." Agree? Disagree? Discuss!

Of those remaining tracks, I thought Breathe, Magnificent & 'NLOTH' were relatively good efforts, but Cedars of Lebanon was, in my opinion, possibly their best track since POP - that was until SoI (SLABT, Troubles, Cedarwood, Iris etc..)

Unknown Caller is for me, the ultimate 'What Could Have Been'. So much potential. But really, the centerpiece of the whole thing, the Greek chorus, is what wrecks it. Everything else, perhaps apart from somewhat uninspiring Edge picking, is pretty great. The techno-babble lyrics kill what...

Have U2's 21st century releases done irreparable damage to their legacy?

ATYCLB, for all its flaws, is the album that got me into U2, so I can never really disown it. I imagine for many younger people, it was this album that introduced them to U2 in the 2000s. I imagine it's also a bit steeped in time, since it's difficult to dissociate 9/11 with the album...

What's particularly clear now is that they've burned far too many relationships over the last 15 years. I'd say Brian & Danny would be extremely reluctant to work with U2 again. It's been over 12 years now.. I wouldn’t be surprised if Eno & Lanois said something along the lines of.. look...

Have U2's 21st century releases done irreparable damage to their legacy?

Yeah, I'm still glad we got Vertigo. I don't think HTDDAB was terrible, far from it, however it's definitely among my least favourite U2 albums alongside October/NLOTH/War etc.. but it does contain some stellar individual tracks from that era (such as: Vertigo, Miracle Drug, COBL, Mercy...

I noticed someone mention Danger Mouse as being a possibility to produce again, but I reckon the thing with Danger Mouse is that he prefers working with younger artists/bands that can still be molded and allow him to be able to really stamp his mark on those records. He always leaves massive...
