2016 Rumour Dates?

The first HBO special is on nov 7. Announce the dates then, put them onsale a week later, the 14th, to coincide with the concert broadcast. That's how I'd want it done if it were my tour.

But honestly, expect a tour announcement to coincide with the HBO specials.

All rumors so far seem to indicate them NOT doing stadiums in this tour. Arena tour = more shows. However, the pacing of this tour is pretty relaxed, compared to elevation and vertigo.

Maybe U2 just really like this arena show and don't want to take on stadiums at this point? I love this current show, and I'd rather they do arenas than stadiums any day. While stadium shows gross much more money, they also cost more money. U2 are probably making more money this tour than they did on 360, due to the lower overall costs, and not having much tear down - setup - transport time.

Getting back to my off topic question on this off topic thread.

What happens to the tickets that are in the Ticketmaster re-sale system as the time of the show approaches.
Do sellers simply take them back? Do they get turned back in to TM and thus become for sale for the general public? If so, is it online only? Box Office Only? Both?

Roughly 30 hours from the first chords of the iconic Welcome to New York and a guy with daughters gots to know :wink:

Sellers usually delist them, and may list them on Stubhub (which often allows sales 30 minutes after the start time of the event). The box office would not be involved in that scenario.

Short answer is "Yes".

I was trying to get into a Ringo Starr theater show last night and was carefully watching all my options. Once again the secondary tickets were were re-appearing on ticketmaster(TM seat maps are pulled after 5pm so screen grabs aren't possible)

I've seen TM do this on many occasions as have a few other local fans who try to get cheap tickets or tricky footwork with ticket upgrades.

I have caught TM doing illegal things on numerous occasions. I had concrete evidence of TM stealing a ticket from me without a refund in 2012 without me setting foot in the venue or interacting with security. All legal/media channels were explored with help of someone who's settled with a major company several years earlier and I got nowhere.

I've caught Ticketmaster jacking up tickets $50 a hour before an EDM show without warning which quite illegal. Photos included.

Ticketmaster know the names/addresses of people who print 20 copies of papers tickets and sell them to stoner kids for $20 each yet always protect the identity of the guilty.

I've seen TM managers give out partial seat location/CC info/home address to customers without ID that flagrantly violate privacy laws. TM employees sign strict non-disclosure agreements so there's never an "exposes" on them.

They've received many lawsuits and don't seem phased by any bad press. They either quietly settle them or when they lose in court the payouts are surprisingly small.

I mean... You make some damning accusations, and nothing would make me happier than to see Ticketmaster get taken down... But you offer zero proof of all of it

How is that illegal?
They are able to charge what they want, they post all their "subject to change" disclaimers.
And therefore is it also illegal when they drop $300 U2 tickets in Montreal and other places to $100 a few days before a show when demand slows to facilitate sales?
 
Interesting.. they haven't done consecutive legs on the same continent before that I can see since they were starting out

Yeah, since they released Boy the only time they've done consecutive legs of the same tour on the same continent was War: the pre-tour in Europe in December 1982 was followed by the first leg of the tour proper in February-April 1983.

However, the original schedule for 360 had consecutive legs on the same continent: the second leg was in North America, and then the third leg was going to be in North America as well until Bono's back surgery forced the postponement of those dates.

It's also worth noting that the final leg of the Boy Tour was in Europe during early June 1981, and the first leg of the October Tour began in mid-August - a smaller gap than there is probably going to be between the second and third legs of the current tour!
 
I'm pretty sure that IF they will return to Europe, it will be stadiums and festival grounds, summer/early autumn. So spring 2016 will be for other continents I think.

Ha, My idea exactly :p

So we pretty much have confirmation from a gazillion different people and places now that they are returning to Europe next year... The question remains, when will it be announced? :hmm:

Secretly still dreaming that they're dropping Songs of Experience either on Christmas or in early Jan/Feb and then announce the Stadium tour a la NLOTH. :wink:
 
No way... when they release the album the show needs to change. I don't think they can change it by march. That's too little time. And I don't think they will pass on the opportunity to play in stadiums. So for me SOE will be released before the stadium tour. It seems pretty safe that 2016 will kick off with a continued arena leg. Maybe a break in the summer before going in stadiums in South America in early 2017. That would leave enough time to finish the album and rework the show and stage to fit into stadiums.
 
Why do people still think they are going to play stadiums in Europe?

All rumours to date in Europe point to an arena tour. In Portugal they will be at Pavilhão Atlântico, in Lisbon... the portuguese promoter already said that the only doubt is that if they are only doing two shows or more than that. If they come to Lisbon in May 2016, I think it's likely that the tour may start in March. They already closed Vertigo tour here, and even 360º Tour was one of the last dates (in Coimbra), as only Rome had a show after Portugal.
 
Oh I forgot: South America doesn't have decent arenas. I'm not saying they won't play arenas in 2016. All rumors point in that direction. But they might very well play stadiums in 2017, following the release of SOE (or not)

But all the rumours point to indoors. Joe O said arenas, Europe in the Spring. There are plenty of areas in Europe, they haven't touched this time that have (probably) suitable arenas

Belgrade, Kraków , Lisbon, Prague, Zagreb, Vienna, Helsinki, Zurich, Moscow

plus

Madrid, Lyon, Birmingham, Manchester, Brussels in countries they have already visited.

There's a pretty good schedule

The possible sticking point would be shifting £200 tickets in some of these areas

Probably not NA, with the NBA and NHL already booked. Summer makes more sense for NA, which I think we'll see.

For the cities mentioned in the euro zone, the top prices have been 200 euro or so.
