Cosmos Thoughts III: U2 "WTF were they thinking" moments

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.
If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
Was listening to Passengers today and it's as bad-ass as ever. But then Elvis Ate America came on. What a shit song. And it comes right after the haunting Corpse (These Chains Are Too Long). What the fuck moment for sure.

If a song is in original or higher key it doesn´t make the song a 1% better. I personally would tune the majority of U2 songs a step down tmake Bono´s vocals sound little bit less affected.

For example Amazing grace in standard D was impossible for Bono to sing and for me it is unlistenable , he should perhaps put it an octave down

Couldn't possibly disagree more, but whatevs

Wow. Just saw that 'Stuck' video for the 1st. That is absolutely hilarious. I really hope it was intentional, because that's the worst music video I've ever seen.

That is one of the best parts of the record.
You must listen to that song a few more times. Then you will understand
how cool it sounds. It is in there for a reason.

Elvis, white trash
Elvis the Memphis flash
Elvis didn't smoke hash
Would have been a sissy without Johnny Cash

It mixes great with the "I feel Numb" song.

Not letting the bridge in Volcano "explode"(pun intended) in its live debut and instead making it sound restrained.

(1) no invisible on SOI or promo appearances.
(2) putting Straight Up Sh*t (SUC) on an album just to ruin it. There was no need to even write that song. When they reached the "little old lady" line, someone should've had the common sense to pull out all the recordings of the song and smash them with a hammer repeatedly and then burn the studio to the ground to cleanse themselves of that atrocity.
(3) deciding not to play Fez and White As Snow on the 360 tour.
(4) burying October into the ground and never playing the songs again. It's beyond a shame that they don't play anything from that album. There are some great songs on there.
(5) No live recordings/albums of The Unforgettable Fire Tour and lack of playing any TUF material outside of Pride, TUF(briefly and after a long break), and Bad.
(6) lack of Boy material live
(7) way too much of the same Achtung Baby material. The Fly is one of my favorite U2 songs, but I'd only like to see it played on very rare occasion this tour. Drop Mysterious Ways, End Of The World, and One. Wild horses, so cruel and Tryin to throw your arms would be nice once in a while.

You sure?

"The air is heavy, heavy as a truck"

I will see your Electrical Storm lyric and raise you with "Like a little old lady" from SUC!

That might be the royal flush of bad lyrics.....

I like this song by the way but this-

Hot as a hair dryer in your face
Hot as handbag and a can of mace
New York

?

Dont forget this bad boy from wild honey

In the days
When we were swinging form the trees
I was a monkey
Stealing honey from a swarm of bees

Worst U2 lyric:

"I like the sound of my own voice,

I didn't give anybody else a choice

AN INTELLECTUAL TORTOISE...."

I really like that song. Never knew that was the lyrics. Still like it. It's not offensive like "little old lady". It's kinda funny.

I love U2 and all of their music but here are 4 wtf moments.

1. Naming the album "POP" "POP" I think a different title would have made all the difference in the perception of this album which I really like. Like maybe one of the titles they mentioned at the time as possilbe titles "Discola, Miami, Mi@mi, Novelty Act, Super City Man, YOU2 and Godzilla"

2. Mixing together the studio and live songs on Rattle and Hum. I think the album would have alot better if they kept the 9 studio songs together followed by the live songs.

3. Not releasing the original Mercy and original "Radio One" version of Electrical Storm with the added guitar during the chorus. After you hear this version the other two versions feel like their really missing something.

4. Lastly, I think if they would have given away 1 or 2 songs from Songs of Innocence like Miracle and Crystal Ballroom rather than the whole album they would have been in a better spot. The same number of people would get it. Not many people would bother complaining about a song or 2 and the album sales would have been normal when the full album came out. The storm would have been averted and 50 milllion people would still have heard from U2.

I love U2 as well. Let's see how you do slugger.

I don't think the name mattered one bit to the reception of the record, people just didn't connect with the songs. By contrast, they could have called TJT "Four Leprechauns in the Desert" and it would have sold 20 million copies.

So I'd simply correct this "U2 WTF moment" as follows:

1. the album "POP"

Godzilla would have been REALLY cool though.

2. Mixing together the studio and live songs on Rattle and Hum. I think the album would have alot better if they kept the 9 studio songs together followed by the live songs.

Yes.

3. Not releasing the original Mercy and original "Radio One" version of Electrical Storm with the added guitar during the chorus. After you hear this version the other two versions feel like their really missing something.

No one cares.

I don't know. They did what they did. It's done.

They could put 10-20 seconds of that in a Tim & Eric episode and it would fit right in.

That is so strange..why were they on a random roof, in the winter?

What's amazing is that the random rooftop might have been the most normal thing about that.

SOI Promo tour>>>>>>POP promo tour
