UHm.. wow. This thread.

I really don't get how some people are just born without a sense of humour. When the rest of the world CLEARLY thinks something is funny and meant as a joke, and you don't.. why bother fight it? Just accept that you're not gonna get any allies here and read a book on humour or something.

I'm sorry I offended the "sense of humour dictatorship". God forbid anyone have a different opinion, offer a different perspective, or simply raise a question about something. I love the logic which says that if I find it funny and you don't, then you were born without a sense of humour.

Your understanding of a diss is starting to improve.

Your grasp on humour: still woefully absent.

LOL, its always funny to the joker when they say it about someone else. Turn it around on them, and its a dis or an insult.

Youre just being deliberately contrary. Theres a huge difference in not getting the joke vs taking it to mean something completely different. When people do that, we patiently try to explain the punchline, and if they still dont get it, we say that person is lacking a normal sense of humour. If they argue on and on that the punchline could reasonably be interpreted by someone else to meam something that just isnt so, we go

So which is it? Its bee explained to you, the punchline is clear as a bell...so do you not get the joke, and still think its a real diss? Really??

How is dissing someones country with a comment like that, especially given the sensitivity around that, funny? It might be between two people who are acquainted and who tease each other regularly like that, sure. But in this context, it just makes you look like you took the joke a little too far into personal territory.

LOL, your still missing the point. You simply fail to understand that what was said can be interpreted differently by others and that doing so is normal. Whats abnormal is to insist that what you think is funny, should be funny to everyone else and that having a different interpretation or opinion on what was said is impossible.

LOL. Is Australia a Penal Colony in 2011?

Pretty sure the only thing about that clip that's in question AT ALL, is whether it was a pre-planned bit, or whether U2 and Phil were just having a little spur of the moment fun

Apology accepted.

It's not that I find it funny and you don't, it's that the rest of the world finds it funny and you don't. It's not us, it's you. Simple as that. You took offense to something that's clearly a joke, you were mistaken, just admit it so we can all get on with our lives. Seriously, it's not that fucking hard mate.

LOL, I forgot that you actually know everyone else in the world and scientifically confirmed that they all think its funny and not a dis in any way shape or form.

People can have different interpretations, opinions and yes a different sense of humour. With a little time and effort, I'm sure you'll begin to understand that.

Youre digging a nice hole for yourself here...keep going!

I'm not the one that fails to understand that people can have different opinions, interpretations, and yes a different sense of humour about an event.

Until you understand that, you'll continue to be a person that insist that anyone who disagrees with them is a dimwit.

I watched video, and to me it looks like they were dissing Phil and that he wasn't happy about it. When the Edge made the first joke about drummers being singers, Phil did smile, yes, but it seemed a bit forced due to embarassment, and then he simply replied with "I understand". To me, it's clear that he didn't like what he heard. Phil did jab back, but that was after U2 made their 2nd joke (re: Patty), which I also think was pretty mean. But even Phil's jab about them not being sober wasn't a mean dis as opposed to U2's 2 disses, IMO.

Whether or not something is a dis should be taken into context. Like has been mentioned here, each culture is different, and I am in fact an American, so maybe that's why I think U2 went overboard, who knows? I'm just judging by Phil's body language in response to what they said. Also, if U2's jokes were made in private, they would not be disses, but since this was on national TV, they must have been embarassing for Phil, IMO.

I don't think it was scripted. If it was, there would have been more funny lines for Phil to say.

That's my 2 cents. I wasn't planning on posting this, but since this has gone to 6 pages I felt like I should. I'm not going to debate about it though, this is all I have to say.

Ok so...when you first saw it and recorded it, you thought it was in good fun. Somewhere along the way, you started believing it could be a diss. Then, in jabbering back and forth with me about it, you've come back around to believing it was in good fun.

It precisely isn't understandable, in fact it's bordering on delusion.

It's right there on the freakin' video! It's hilarious, and it's clear they are both taking the piss. There was no bitter feud before or after, and noone made a huge deal about it. Everyone laughed. Ha-ha. And to this day I can't figure out why anyone feels the need to create this theory that U2 somehow wanted to publicly diss Phil Collins. Like, why? It makes no sense. Yes, they had said before (or maybe it was years later, can't remember) that they disliked prog-rock, and Genesis was prog-rock. But by that point, Phil was a solo pop artist, and they were pop musicians also. They even have a couple songs (Red Light and Surrender spring to mind) that sound somewhat similar to some of his earlier solo stuff. There's just no basis to believe they hated him or his music and so wanted to publicly diss him on national television.

This is such an illogical argument. "The getaway car was blue" "Are you sure it wasn't red?" "No, it was blue." "But how can you be sure? What would it have looked like if it was red?" "I dunno, a fire truck?" "Are you saying a getaway car can't look red?" :banghead: You're asking me to speculate on what they might have said if they did in fact hate Phil's music and did in fact feel so inclined as to publicly diss the person handing them a freakin award?? Really??

Fine, I'll play along, borrowing inspiration from other posters in this thread who actually don't like Phil:

"Hey Phil - we've got alot in common...for instance, we used to have really bad hair, us two. The thing is...I lost my mullet...while you just LOST YOUR HAIR bwhahahahaha" :rimshot:

"Hey Phil - don't cry that you didn't win any awards this year - it's not every year you can come up with a (ROLL EYES) brilliant masterpiece like, you know, Sussudio (winking and nudging each other)"

"Hey Bono and the rest of you drunken Irish twits - what's with the big puppet heads - aren't your egos big enough as it is?"

It would be positively yawn-worthy, and not what the producers wanted, which was something edgy and funny. Plus, they don't have to love his music to not truly want to diss him. They're taking easy funny soft shots, that they both can have a laugh about, not shooting meaningful disses his way.

So let me get this straight: If 6 dimwits posted the video of Larry saying to Bono "If I had a head like yours I'd bleedin bury it" with the caption "OMFG LARRY DISSEZ BONO ONOH!!!!111!1" on 6 different occasions, you'd say that it's reasonable to interpret it that Larry was really dissing Bono for real??

God you're annoying.
