North Star confirmed in Transformers

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.
If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
I actually didn't mind the video for Elevation because it had a huge budget. It was kinda fun. The remix version was different. The put a lot of effort into that song/video

Its only flaw is that U2 listened to some research analyst who said "20% of your audience plays video games" and

"19% likes American football" so you should make videos with these themes.

The football video of STUCK should have been called "suck In a Moment"

Agreed on all. Elevation was a fun video to watch and the remix version IMO is better than the album version.

And that video for Suck in a moment should have never seen the light of the day. The Eu version of the vid is only watchable because it's fun seeing Bono thrown out of a van countless times. But either way, that song should've never been a single when Kite is on the same record.

I find that Elevation video so cringeworthy, that even just now, I can't get through more than a tiny little bit of it. Reaaally embarrassing. Not fun. Awful.

That's so mean!

But i completely agree

Anyone claiming different is a liar.

The look on Edge's face a couple of times in that clip is hillarious too. When they're up against the wall or lying on the tarmac or whatever.

And whoop, there goes Bono again, thrown out of the van by his bandmates.

Still amusing.

Hm, that states he also did Elevation. But Elevation wasn't too bad IMO.

Still. *prepares eggs and toilet paper*. SUCK cannot be forgiven.

Are you all bashing half the ATYCLB videos again? I think they're cute. Come on, Edge slipping on nachos? At least they were trying to be humorous. The Elevation video might be a little tacky, but I thought it was awesome when I was 14 and it was one of the first U2 videos I ever saw; same with Stuck. You people just hate it because you're not American and it's about American football. You probably don't even understand the significance of John Madden. :tsk:

i'm American and am obsessed with American football, and i think the Stuck video is one of the low points of their career.

John who?

And yeah, I don't like American football, don't give a crap about it. And I hate the song, so that doesn't help either. Though the regular album version isn't as bad as the abomination that is the live acoustic rapage, it's still not one of my favourites to say the least.

But even with that. That video is bad. REALLY bad. All the U2 puns in it, the rabbit suit dude.. major wtf. U2 trying to appeal to their US fans or something?

It looks like he has worked with a roll call of MTV type talent.

Anyone who has worked with Ke$sha will undoubtedly leave humanity much richer and with a greater understanding of their place in the cosmos.

When cancer is finally solved, people will look back and say "the contributions of both
Nicole Scherzinger and Jospeh Kahn" were pivotal in our understanding of this insidious disease.

I just think it's sad that when U2 try to make something funny, people think it's dumb. No wonder they don't try very often.

Maybe they should try harder and make something that's actually funny? Perhaps do something that appeals to most of your fanbase, rather than the North American Football lovers only.

i love U2's funny videos... Sweetest Thing is lovely, and i love the Elevation tombraider vid too - can't remember the Stuck videos off the top of my head, but will have a look, and i'm sure i will love them too if they're a bit dafty :D

The video is really ridiculous, but I think that's kind of the point.

Rachel, this is not personal.

No.

This wasn't a ZOO TV, layers of irony type thing. This was decision that said, "I am going to knowingly sign off on this piece of shit video because it meets some stupid demographic quota." I am going ignore my better instincts that tell me to reach for the highest artistic ideals and instead I am going to be pragmatic and listen to some stat person and how to make a video that moves product.

Sincerely,

U2 2001

Its all getting a bit desperate isn't it? I mean.... cumon U2, its Transformers  You're better than that.

I can almost see the posts of worship on this site if the video were for a Pop song. Acting like fools and playing jokes in their work is only cool when there are Village People costumes involved.

Just heard the clip (from email).

I don't know. I remember reading about North Star and then seeing the youtube clips, I thought it could go as a simple alt country song. Stripped down arrangements, nice melody, create a mood of a cowboy space traveling.

And now I hear this clip and its a bit overproduced. I think U2 don't what to do w/ this song. Come to think of it, U2 doesn't know what to do with any of their new songs....

These guys think too much.

I'll forgive them since it is from the Bomb era, it really does sound like OOTS part 2.

My exact question - not that I listened to the 2010 live version over and over, but it sounds like the exact same arrangement to me.

LOL at Bono calling it a "wonderful little movie."

Edge is just playing the chords to the song on his acoustic guitar.

The European version(sans Turin, that was acoustic as well) had the Stratocaster and Edge playing arpeggios and notes alongside the chords. It sounded so much better.

Listen to the difference. This is why people think it sounds a bit like The Fly's Elevation tour arrangement. Similar arpeggio notes.
