I still think the way to go in the UK is hit the smaller markets. Places where the visit of the band would generate much more local interest rather than get lost in the 'justanothergiginlondon'. Places such as Southampton, Ipswich, Hull, Coventry have all had gigs. Whether the claw is logistically possible is another matter!

I see your point
may be the North East. Wales again?

i still think unlikely more than 2 shows in London

Even if they took one stage to Japan and played one show at the Yokohama stadium grossing lets say at least $8 million, that wouldnt make up for the costs? They played to 57,158 people at the saitama super arena in 2006 and grossed $6,096,855. I think they could come out on top if they played this time around.

I am encouraged that with all these different dates being posited here that no smart arse has come along and rubbished them. I live in hope - never having seen U2 on Irish soil I can't think of a more apt time for them to play some shows there than this difficult year.

U2 could have a choice between Bucharest and Cluj-Napoca if there were to be a show in Romania.

I just visited a sports stadium forum, and a native of Cluj-Napoca said:

Cluj County Council president says negotiations are held with U2, Guns n' Roses, Roger Waters and Europe for a future concert on the new stadium
CLUJ-NAPOCA - New Ion Moina (30,596) - Page 24 - SkyscraperCity

This new stadium is the soon-to-be-newly rebuilt New Ion Moina.

U2 live in the heart of Transylvania.

found a greek article which says McGuinness told in a press conference in Cannes that the album is indeed out on 27th May - don't know if it's true though as couldn't find any other article about this.

I'm trying to remember if that's the last bit we had already heard, and someone posted a picture of McGuiness with some other guys in suits because it was being debated whether or not the piece of news was BS or not?

Sorry, that's a bit incoherent. Just thinking out loud, because the "Cannes" bit rang a bell.

There are currently rumors out there that U2 have the claw rented until 2015. That's enough time to encapsulate another album/tour cycle. Conceptually, they're not going to find a way to top 360 tour until they come up with a cheaper way to do 360 stadium shows. They could find ways to reconfigure the stage and make an entirely new show out of it, and decorate the claw differently, but I think the actual concept of the claw is going to stay. Just like how the band used the same staging for UF, JT, LT, Zoo (arena), Elevation and Vertigo tours (it's true. The core part of the stage, aka the part the band stood on, was the same stage, dressed up differently each time. I read that in some book written by U2's touring staff.)

Hopefully the next tour with the claw is called something a little better than 360 tour.

The claw is rented? Maybe I can make arrangements to rent it after 2015. You know, just to have around as a conversation piece.

:hmm:

As a concept, yes the claw is theirs. However, the metal required to build the claw belongs to a belgian company.

I still don't understand - wouldn't they have to buy the metal from the Belgian company to build the stage?

I'm sure that once U2 are done with the metal used to make the claw, they won't just keep it. If they did in fact buy the metal, they'll turn around and sell it, as there is always a use for constructive metal.

OR, if they did in fact rent it from this Belgian steel company, the company will then take it back when U2 are done with the metal and use it for something else (rigging for other stages, general construction, etc).

Or maybe I'm completely wrong. The rumor I read on u2start.com just said some crew member or Sebastian Clayton's former roommate or Rocko Reedy's aunt said they had the claw rented until 2015. It's just a rumor, one of many.

i typed 'migraine' into google images and that post popped up

No word yet on whether U2's 360 tour will continue beyond July, but if it does, here is what I think they will do:

Tel Aviv
Bucharist
Prague
Oslo
Amsterdam
Paris
Marseille
London
Manchester
Belfast
Dublin
Tokyo

Can't see Prague and Bucharest. one or the other
Or Manchester and London. London only
Belfast - venue?
Tokyo - i don't think Asia will happen, costs will outweigh demand

There is NO WAY u2 would come to UK and not play Scotland. As Bono sed on the Elevation tour...if they didnt Play Scotland...his life wouldnt be worth living!

I highly doubt this. They've always bought their stages and nobody knows what happened afterwards with it. Likely sold back to StageCo or whatever.
Saw a documentary on the company, it was around the time of U2's vertigo tour. It seemed quite clear that U2 had placed an order for the stage, StageCo makes it, U2 pays for it. And they rent the crew to build it and tear it down every night.

I suppose its possible that they might have done a deal on the steel frame. It could make good sense for U2 to do that, and might not be a bad deal for whoever supplied the steel. I mean, its not permanent. U2 have to either sell it, or pay to dispose of it in some way later on. Pay less for it - or pay what you might call a lease or rent type fee - with a time limit on their ownership of it (to establish some type of fixed frame for value.) The original owners get it back and can re-use it, U2 don't cough up quite so much up front and don't have the hassle of offloading it at the end. Don't know if thats completely silly or quite realistic, but it doesn't sound like some sort of agreement along those lines would be all that crazy.

I wish they'd just give us the tour dates already, so we didn't have to waste time musing over steel prices, and who owns the claw.

I hate to break it to you - but you do know that Bono says shit like that in every single city he visits, right?

Hahaha.

You mean when Bono says the U2 fans from (insert your home city here) are the best, he's just being nice?
