What are U2's ticket sales in the US ?

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.
If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
The tickets are still an auction. It was just a glitch in the drop down not only for this show but a couple of others. Me and some others tried to buy during the Horizon presale and the tickets were never available.

I pointed this out earlier, but he continues to post that option as sold out.

There are auctions in progress right now for all of the shows that had presales last week that are ending this coming Tuesday.

While his source for declaring it a sell out is inaccurate, to be fair, we all know these are going to sell out. I think there are only a few hundred available anyway, so its not a great indicator of how the show is selling. Based on the fact that Arizona, Oakla, Virginia and the NC shows were all selling much worse than Denver after 1 day (i.e. multiples at nearly every level) and they all sold a minimum of 50k and sold out; its a safe bet to say Denver will sell out and should have a minimum of 60 to 65k in attendance.

The point is not whether the Red Zone will sell out or not sell out. The point is that it's misleading to imply that these tickets were sold at a fixed price and sold out when in fact there are auctions going on right now for the Red Zone and this option was never available for sale to begin with.

As you can see from a poster in this thread, as well as, the other thread where this was posted it's giving people the wrong impression that the Red Zone is now being sold rather than auctioned.

Hey I just posted what Ticketmaster is still listing 11 hours after it has gone on sale. If it's a glitch then why haven't they fixed it 11 hours later?

Who cares why they haven't fixed it? A number of us tested that option in quite a few shows when the presales first started. Those tickets were never available for sale. The auctions are currently in progress.

So I guess the option to buy 55 dollar red zone tickets for Edmonton is a glitch also then. Maybe they released a small batch of red zone tickets at regular prices for both shows. who knows. it would make since to fill up the red zones since before those areas were kinda skim on the past two legs.

As I mentioned multiple times already, the option appeared for a few shows since the 1st day of the presales (more than just Edmonton and Denver). Just like it appeared during the first European leg for a couple of shows. The tickets were never sold then either.

In all cities there have been auctions, that's in the description of the Red Zone.

Look if you want to believe these tickets were sold for $55 go ahead. Let's hope not too many people waste their time on the upcoming general sales trying to get these tickets and miss out on the actual GA's.

oh I'm sure you are right, i'd believe you over ticketmaster for sure, i just listed the results for that show, nothing more nothing less, just like I list the billboard boxscore results on here. im not denying the 58 red zones are a glitch i was just making a suggestion that maybe something was different this time around, but I don't deny that you are right.

Was checking out ticket sales at wikipedia and I was surprised to see that ALL SHOWS HAVE SOLD OUT......:shifty: .......I thought Oklahoma didn't do as expected when it came to ticket sales. Has anybody here been to a show where it was obvious that it wasn't sold out? There are some seats of course that are not used (obstructed view, behind the sound booth, etc.).

Just scroll down:

Over all, the tour has been a success when it comes to ticket sales, crowd reception, etc. But I was just wondering about ticket sales.

There's an entire thread on this topic that contains all of the statistics for this tour.

Oh no, not again the same old question. We´ve all had our share of pointless debates as to what the term sell out means.

Unfortunately it is hard to know what was released or not released since on this tour Live Nation U2 might not release all the tickets for a venue so they are able to declare it a SELLOUT>>>>>
There could be entire sections not listed as available and will be sold later if neccessary.
FOr all shows in NA you could get seats below face value leading up to show. And most venues were still selling tikcets day of show.

FOr all shows in NA you could get seats below face value leading up to show. And most venues were still selling tikcets day of show.

Which is totally irrelevant and the common situation outside any venue on any tour that has been properly promoted and is maximizing gross for the artist.

I don't think this is what they expected when announcing new dates in come-back markets Toronto, Chicago and East Rutherford.

they have still sold an awful lot of tickets for shows that are 8 months away.

although - i am sure that they would have expected a daily sell out in both NJ and TO

I guess the failure to sell out the NJ show quickly is the only real setback to them though - i think that they would have expected to get a second show there.

I doubt it, because four soldout shows in NJ would mean a total of 320,000+ tickets sold from just four shows. U2's previous high for the NJ/New York City area was 271,000 from 7 shows on ZOO TV. I think they thought it was a possibility, but not very likely they would put on a second show given how many tickets they had already sold in the market.

Before tickets even went on sale for Toronto and Chicago, they stated shows in those cities would be the final performances, so they knew they were close to exhausting demand in those markets.

Thought I would resurface this one. Was bored yesterday so I checked the status of their USA shows. These 9 shows had at least one price level that had multiple tickets available. The six other shows were either totally sold out or only had single tickets left. Multiples mean you can purchase 2 or more tickets, singles only one. sales are really good so far.

Looks like many shows will finally sell out.

However, Chicago very weak! Don't understand they planned another show there in 2010. Especially when you see that other shows sell very fast while no others are added. Or that even some markets in Europe and ROW are skipped where they would have a guaranteed sell out.

Here is an update on the ticket sales so far. There are 8 concerts on ticketmaster that have multiple tickets left in certain price levels. The other 7 concerts are either totally sold out or have only single tickets left in certain price levels. Here are the results as of today. Salt Lake City is sold on smithstix.com and there are currently 6,556 seats left. Since Rice Eccles Stadium has a capacity of 46,500 they have sold 39,944 seat tickets and probably 5,000 or so field tickets.

Dont worry folks there will be plenty of tickets to U2 COncerts at or below cost. These shows won't sell out.
They just use goldman sachs to tally up the sales.

Not sure if we went by the true meaning of sellout what the actual results are but at most shows last fall the seats were empty in spots or the field was only 1/2 full etc.

Just check craiglist and other ticket sites for deals of the week as U2 comes to a city near you....
:applaud:

Why don't you ask ticketmaster what the true meaning is if you're so concerned? I simply listed what was available for the price levels. i've seen pics and videos of last years shows and umm..they all looked full to me with a few very small minor areas with empty seats, but who cares, even those stadiums on the whole looked packed. the half full field you are talking about is because the fire marshall only allows so many on the pitch. the fact is they played to 3,071,290 people in only 44 shows and to an average of 69,802 people per show last year. look for a similar average this year as well.

Folks, badU2 looks like same post person that was kicked off this site back in fall due to his obsessive postings about the supposed lack of U2 ticket sales. Now he or she has come back ranting about Goldman Sachs and 1/2 empty shows which is a complete lie. Why does this poster have such an obsession with U2? Why does he/she even care if U2 sells out or not? I love U2, would love to see them have as many sellouts as possible, care less whether they are all billionaires, or if rest of world hates U2 and thinks they are money grubbers, I could care less. Members of U2 have done more to raise awareneess for important social causes than probably most any other major artist so let them have their money. The haters can obsess, wring their hands in angst but true U2 fans love the band, their music and go to their shows whenever they can do it.

btw: I attended opening night in Barcelona on the ground and I was upset since I think there were too many people packed in. Also, fire safety rules in many NA cities limited capacity on floors for GA tix so U2 could have sold more GA tix but often local rules prevented that. Either way, they made MILLIONS and there is plenty more MILLIONS headed U2's way in 2010. So sorry badu2 fan, they are going to be getting more rich as 360 continues. To the person that is posting tix sales, keep up the good work as it obviously bothers some to see that U2 is as popular as ever!

I'm pretty sure Miami is a strong market for u2. Tampa's ticket sales looked very similar to Miami's at this point last year, and closer to the date of the concert Tampa sold out completely. Im for certain Miami will end up selling out. Tickets will start to fly once they are about 2-3 weeks out before the show.

I have a problem with Marketing that is used to deceive the public. A la every show sold out..... Lie Lie Lie..... It sold out to a number we decided was sold out..... Some of u2 shows actually sold out but a lot of shows 20-30% were close to sell outs but were not. Why does a band with such high morales and values have to make it look like they sold out every show. Ego???
Of course U2 will break every record on attendance for a tour etc.... But don't try to make it even grandier.... Read Rolling Stone articles on how Wall St is killing main street with their deals of the century etc...
But what would be better is if U2 by example would try to make the concert business better. Hoing up with Live Nation is like sleeping with Goldman Sachs....
I also find it amusing that people in this forum act like the tour accountant tallying sales finding what empty seats are available etc.... But ask some of the people that paid $200 + for a ticket from fan club and they end up behind the stage on the side while some joker shows up at a sold out show and is able to purchase a 50 yard line seat the day of the show at the ticket office.....We take care of our fans...Its all about profit and who makes more...... People are losing houses jobs etc and U2 fans are worried about selling out their tour with numbers that are fabricated to make it seem like demand is more then supply....

:hmm:

You don't think the actual band members have anything to do with whether the show says sold out or not do you? I also hope you don't think that this only happens to u2. I could care less whether all the shows say sold out or not, it's the end numbers that really matter. this thread is about ticket sales, so I was just trying to give some insight or a very close idea of how well they are doing in sales so far. no one will know whether every show was an exact true sell out or not. there's no need for you to enlighten us on whether 20-30% of the shows were not "true" sell outs or whatever. who cares! for example, the fact is they played to slightly over 70,000 people in Dallas, and yes I was at the show. It looked completely packed, I could not see patches of empty seats or whatever. If you look at the capacity of the stadium it says 80,000 on worldstadiums.com. the boxscore said sold out. where are the other 10,000 empty seats or 15,000 for that matter considering there was probably 5,000 or so on the pitch?? I certainly didnt see that..lol maybe after you go and count every seat to every stadium they played in you might have an argument here..lol I find it amusing that it bothers you that u2 is doing so well. I think this is your issue here.

I hope u2 all the success they achieve. Just tell Live Nation or Marketing to let the tickets fall where they fall instead of trying to inflate them. Declaring the tour a sellout is BS>>> Why not say in a tough economy we are selling out most of the shows but in some markets there are tickets available....
They have admitted or said the tour hasn't made money
after last summer..
Also when the band or better yet the corporation sells $50 ticket memberships and then presells $250 tickets that are on the side behind the stage but the day of show people can buy $250 seats at 50 yard line that is BS IMO>>> Then they make you rejoin the Ticket CLub before your membership expires if you want to have a right to presales..... That is sick slick imo....Or offer up a limited cd as incentive for membership only to release it on vinyl to public.....
Not sure who is in control of the machine but it seems to be a little unbalance.
But again this is how I see it...

They have released some more tickets for some of the shows. here's what's available as of today, 5/11/10. Sales look very good. there's about 6600 tickets left for salt lake, they released more tickets for that show as well. comparing this to last year, sales look a little better this time around on the average. sales will definitely pick up closer to the actual date of the concerts and we will see most of these multiples go away.

Did anyone else happen to notice with the terrible news regarding Bono that 2 more shows were now listed as SOLDOUT. I believe the new ones are Oakland and Chicago. Chicago seems a bit of a surprise considering the recent entries in this thread. Makes me think that many of the others will be getting listed as SOLDOUT soon.
