October 1 - Scott Stadium - Charlottesville VA

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.

I'm volunteering myself to organize the line. I like the number system. I am going to be 20 years old on Sunday, and I'm one of the most responsible people you'll ever meet. If anybody is interested in helping me - please PM me. I hope everyone would be ok with this system. I can go talk to the people at the stadium tomorrow and tell them I will spend the night out there writing down people's names and numbers.

All I know about the trolleys is that they will not be running on a normal schedule...check UVA website for details. Just google "UVA transportation", or go to virginia.edu. There should be info on the home page.

^ good for you. Just be aware that not all the fans are from this board. So be prepared to encounter people who don't want to follow the system, or possibly someone else who have started another line, etc. Just be civil about it, you'll work something out.

Also, I suggest coming up with a numbering/name system that's more than just a number. In Jersey it was a combination of number and letter. So people won't be able to just write a number on their wrist and before you know it there will be a bunch of people with the number "17" written on their wrists, and you won't know which one is legit...

Good luck & thanks for the info.
I am sure U2 fans will appreciate it!

I'm willing to take any ideas. My only question is: Once the gates open, I can go, right? My dream is to be on the rail, I'm willing to do anything to get that.

I have A LOT of school work to do before the concert, so I will do more thinking about it tomorrow.

Everything I'm reading says that UVa has been telling people that they will not be allowing anyone to line up before 3:00 PM. Since classes are in session, I tend to believe that they may enforce this, but I could be wrong. Does anyone have a "plan B" if they keep people from lining up?

Donna,

There is strictly no camping overnight for the GA line; the earliest patrons
will be allowed to line up is 3pm on the day of the show.

joshuatree,

Thanks so much for volunteering to do such a thing, I'm sure it will make the experience better for everybody. Are you going to use wristbands/markers to write numbers on people's hands/something like that? I've heard that some people used that kind of system so that people could leave and then take their place in line again if they had their official number.

Looking forward to Thursday!! :hyper:

Found another twitter pic of the stage construction... I'm getting really nervous

Awesome pic Aslan!

Is UVA the smallest stadium/venue U2 will be playing this year?
Cause from your pic, it might appear like the front claws are pass the 50 yd line!

I was thinking the same thing too. All of the seating charts I've seen have the stage coming out to the 50 yard line, but then again the chart may be a bit disproportionate. But I would say that the C-ville and Raleigh shows will definitely be among the smallest of the venues, when you compare it to the NFL stadium concerts.

Looking at football pictures, the front arm of The Claw are well past the 50-yard line. It looks like that stage had to be pushed forward a bit to clear the way the field narrows at each end. This is going to be fantastic!!!

The Las Vegas stadium is also small, but I think Charlottesville is by fall the smallest of the stadiums. The stage is so tall I am pretty sure we can expect "UFO sighting" from the poor folks that do not know that U2 has landed.

With such a small stadium, and So many GA tickets out there for sale, do you think this will be a positive or negative to the GA experience? I have decent offer on my 2 reserved seats and my GF and I are thinking of selling them and buying three GA's to get her teenage daughter in. Although at 5'4'', we are worried about her being able to see.

(Not to mention, I have this nightmare about people surrounding me actually trying to sit and sip beer during the show while I am up singing my lungs out!)

Just wanted to let you know my husband and I will be in line very early as well, 6AM, maybe a little before, maybe a little after so I look forward to seeing you and all the other early liner uppers!

I thought UNLV is the smallest venue in North America this year?
But yeah, it looks like that Claw takes up about half of the stadium already!! If so, you guys are in for a treat!

Have fun, everybody!

we are worried about her being able to see.

And in GA don't forget the very real possibility of being crushed/smooshed/elbowed/knocked around. This will be worse the closer to the stage you get. If you are not lucky enough to get near the rail or something to hold onto, this WILL happen. Unless your daughter is one of those who thinks the band is 'hot' and wants to get close to them for that reason, I'd recommend the seats.

I have a friend who goes to UVA and he says there are still tickets available, are there? Look at the online broker sites, they're going to eat these things! Some going down as low as twenty bucks! The scalpers who are there in person will probably take just about anything come showtime, so if you don't have tickets yet it may be worth a chance to wait and try to score there.

My fiance and I will be in GA probably around lunchtime or a bit before. Thanks for volunteering to organize, joshuatree!! I absolutely can't wait. :applaud: The pictures look great! :hyper:

Yeah - UVA ticks are still available everywhere. good 1's too. Got mine's for 65% off face.
Tough economy.

UVA definitely will be the best venue for viewing - no bad seats! WAHOO!!WAHOO!!

Speaking of ginormous stadiums - FedEx isn't cosy for sure.

Ha - my 125 seats just became 124 due to this smallnest.
It's going to be a beautiful day.

I need help!!!

I have 2 sets of tickets to the show. 2 seats in section 123, and 2 in section 115. trying to figure out which section is going to b better experience for my gf. shes a huge fan. i want it to b special for her, and i want to make sure she has a great view! please help! which one is going to be the better section so i can keep those, and give the others to my sister. thank you!

115 is behind the stage & while they move around alot from all reports, fact is you are still behind the stage.
If that doesn't matter then the next consideration is how close to the stage.
Either way, UVA is a smaller venue & it is going to feel like an arena more than a stadium. ie very seat will be close.

Small video recording devices?

I apologize if this has been asked before....

Anyone have any insight onto being able to bring 'small' video recording devices into the show? Not big camcorders or pro gear....but small micro recorders like the Flip....

U2's position is all about recording video and sending into the U2 site and such.....encouraged.
BUT, I read Scott Stadiums policy regarding the concert and it says absolutely NO video/audio recorders of any kind except cell phones...

Any thoughts?

I'll be in the queue for GA around 10am Sat. :hyper: Looking forward to seeing the best band in the world and hopefully meeting some of ya'll.

We are so close to it now.... TOMORROW NIGHT!!!! :hyper: :hyper: :hyper::applaud::applaud::applaud:

I have an extra GA ticket if anyone needs one. PM me

I know - is right! I need to remember & pack a light jacket/hoodie. I'm hot natured & not so worried about being cold during the show itself, but the walk back to our hotel might be a bit cool. ;)

Regarding weather, Raleigh's forecast is still for scattered T-storms but they're only being given a 40% chance. If there is any rain Saturday, I'm hoping that it's in the late evening/early morning Sunday. My first U2 show was a stadium show during ZooTV & I still vividly recall sitting in my nosebleed seats with my BFF, looking to my left over the top of the stadium & seeing a gorgeous full moon rising as EBTTRT played. I'd love to have clear skies of the nearly full moon this Saturday, as it will be the first outdoor U2 by BFF & I have seen since then.

As usual they screwed with the setlist for DC.
Hopefully we get what they didn't 25 songs! LOL!
