Cardinals vs Houston Pt 1

Here's a thread for the series nobody cares about, or at least the media. The Yankees/Red sox is a great series and all, but sometimes enough is enough, there is another series going on.

It should be a great series too, I'm damn scared of the Astro's, but luckily their pitching rotation is meessed up.

They have to go with a rookie pitcher with a road era over 6 on 3 days rest in game 1, then a very bad Munro in game 2. The Cardinals better win both or else they could be in trouble.

I predict the Cardinals in 6.

Headache in a Suitcase 10-13-2004 09:55 AM

damn good job by major league baseball to put game 1 of the astros-cardinals series on at the same time as game 2 of the yankees-red sox series :madspit:

Chizip 10-13-2004 10:00 AM

seriously

the lack of respect the astors-cards series is getting is sickening, sickening i tell ya

speedracer 10-13-2004 10:02 AM

Roger Clemens is the Antichrist. No reasonable person can dispute this.

Headache in a Suitcase 10-13-2004 10:02 AM

well they sure weren't gonna put the yankees-red sox on at 4:00, and i guess they didn't think it fair to have the astros & cardinals on at 4:00 every day either. who knows... but leave it to selig to screw it up.

popacrobat 10-13-2004 10:11 AM

im saying st louis in 5. all the cardinals have to do is get into houstons bullpen. it's sub par at best.

Chizip 10-13-2004 10:12 AM

yeah but theyll throw lidge out there in the 7th inning

and he's a beast

popacrobat 10-13-2004 10:13 AM

it's been a long time since the cardinals even won game one of the NLCS too...1987 when they won 5-3 over 'frisco...they lost game 1 in 96,00,02

popacrobat 10-13-2004 10:16 AM

good, let them throw lidge out in the 7th inning

the more the cardinals get to see him, the better they'll become against him, and he'll become fatigued

if they have to pitch him 7-9 in multiple games, theres no way houston will win

Headache in a Suitcase 10-13-2004 10:33 AM

don't underestimate the emotion factor... a lot of those guys on the astros just lost their best friend... that can push a team in one of two different directions... they can either tank, or play their f'ing asses off like they've never played before, with a renewed sense of mission.

popacrobat 10-13-2004 10:37 AM

it could

but the cardinals also lost darryl kile in 2002, who was still on their team, and wound up losing in the nlcs. but that of course happened in june, whereas cam just died a few days ago.

Oh yeah, I hear there's also some sort of debate going on tonight as well.

Headache in a Suitcase 10-13-2004 10:42 AM

that no one will be watching

I dunno. I don't think it matters much. It always seemed to me that pro athletes step out onto the field/court/whatever and forget the rest of the outside world while they're playing.

Maybe Fox will provide a transcript of the debate at the bottom of the screen during the games. Remember when the Oscars went up against Game 7 a few years ago?

BOS 0 NYY 0 TOP 3RD...BUSH CALLS KERRY "DANGEROUSLY INDECISIVE"...KERRY SLAMS BUSH'S HANDLING OF WAR AS "SHORT-SIGHTED"...

Numb1075 10-13-2004 11:03 AM

I'm going w/ Houston in 7 games. Clemens/Oswalt better than St Louis aces (williams, suppan, whoever)...

Carlos Beltran, if he continues to produce like he did this season and especially in the first round of the playoffs...Can you say Cha Ching in the free agent market this off season?

popacrobat 10-13-2004 11:05 AM

clemens/oswalt wont even be toeing the rubber until games 3 and 4...and by then it could be all over.

backe, munro, rest, clemens, oswalt, backe, rest, clemens, oswalt...so if it does go to 7 games, both clemens and oswalt will be pitching on 3 days rest in games 6 and 7 should houston get that far and not start backe or munro...and theres no way they'll win that way, none

Clemens/Oswalt are slated for games 3 and 4...Oswalt won't get a second start unless it's on short rest.

speedracer 10-13-2004 11:08 AM

Jinx!

popacrobat 10-13-2004 11:09 AM

its really sort of sad that this series really isn't getting any attention when the winner (likely the cards) will end up winning the world series

Hey, I didn't say your name. You're not allowed to talk. *whack*

Numb1075 10-13-2004 11:15 AM

i understand that the Big 2 for Houston won't be starting the earlier games. But remember, Houston was dead in the water 2 months ago and have been clicking on all cylinders since then. And they haven't done it with just Oswalt/Clemens. the other guys held their own also. Backe/Munro don't need to be perfect considering they have lots of big bats in their line up (I understand the cards line up is even deeper) but Backe/Munroe can potentially give up 5 runs in 7 innings and still give the Killer Bs a shot.

We shall see.

popacrobat 10-13-2004 04:03 PM

well whaddya know, some publicity!

I guess MLB is taking a page from the NFL's playbook.

Chizip 10-13-2004 08:56 PM

thank god

we needed that win

we need morris to come through tomorrow too, not another melt down

the playoffs are gonna kill me

Chizip 10-13-2004 08:57 PM

also houstons weaknesses are defense and bullpen

and that reallllly showed tonight

Chizip 10-13-2004 09:23 PM

also i hate thundersticks

they are for fans who dont know how to cheer

it embarrasses me as a cardinals fan that we had them

great comeback by st. louis, great win... puts a TON of pressure on pete munro tommorow. just like the ALCS, game 2 is a must win for the astros. and just like the red sox, if the astros lose game 2, the series is over.

popacrobat 10-14-2004 04:21 AM

yup. stros lose and 'tis over.

they had the t-sticks in 02 as well...didnt help though.

morris is money at home, so lets hope that continues...

popacrobat 10-14-2004 04:27 AM

The St. Louis Cardinals have announced that 2004 World Series tickets will go on sale on Saturday, October 16 at 8 a.m. CDT. The National League will host games 3, 4, & 5 (if necessary) in the best-of-seven Fall Classic. The games would be played on Tuesday, October 26, Wednesday, October 27 and Thursday, October 28.

Fans will have a variety of options to try and secure World Series tickets, with approximately 15,000 tickets available for sale (5,000 per game). Tickets will be divided equally for sale among stlcardinals.com, the Busch Stadium Ticket Office location and telephone charge lines.

anyone else going to get ws tickets? i am going to get them one way or another, never been to busch or st louis so i figure why not make a grand entrance during the world series eh

I know this info is useless this morning, but the Cards game was carried on NESN in New England last night since FSN had the Celts preseason game.

popacrobat 10-14-2004 11:52 AM

ah. thatsstupid. should have been the other way around... i have digital cable and the info for nesn said something that i forget, but it wasnt about baseball. oh well, i got the gist of the game and the highlights and everything.

U2democrat 10-14-2004 03:26 PM

we didn't get the cardinals game either, but i'll be glued to it tonight!!!!!!

GO CARDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

popacrobat 10-14-2004 08:59 PM

and the lord said

let thy redbirds go up 2-0 and make headache look like a jackass for hopping on the losing bandwagon

Chizip 10-14-2004 09:01 PM

they should have brought in lidge in the 8th

well the cards did what they had to do, now just take 1 from clemens/oswalt and things will look good

popacrobat 10-14-2004 09:20 PM

yep, and he shouldnt have brought in harville to face rolen

rolen had his only hit of the playoffs vs harville, so bring him in to face rolen again? dumb.

I never understood why some teams don't bring in their closers in during the bottom of the 8th when the game is tied. Doubly so if the big hitters are up or there are runners on base.

Chizip 10-14-2004 09:46 PM

the cardinals had the heart of their order in the bottom of the 8th, and then houston had theirs in the top of the 9th

he should have brought in lidge to keep it tied so his big batters could go for the lead, and then left him in for the bottom of the 9th

i couldnt believe it when he threw out micelli, and then back to back home runs right away

great stuff

speedracer 10-14-2004 09:54 PM

(empty)

U2democrat 10-15-2004 06:32 AM

2-0 baby!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

popacrobat 10-15-2004 08:08 PM

i wanna end it in houston

U2democrat 10-15-2004 08:24 PM

get the brooms out cause we gotta, just gotta have a sweep!
