The Cure Survivor - Tier 1 - Round 2

The first elimination from the top tier was "Friday I'm in Love", closely followed by "Sinking" and "Cut", but not enough to survive!

bono_212 01-21-2013 12:06 PM

Cut's gotta go.

LemonMelon 01-21-2013 04:11 PM

In Between Days has a vote already? Holy shit.

One of many dull pop songs from that mid-80s era (Let's Go To Bed, The Walk, The Lovecats...). Easily the least interesting aspect of Smith's songwriting for me. Sometimes he does it perfectly though, as in Just Like Heaven, and sometimes it's downright atrocious, as in Friday I'm in Love - Inbetween Days probably won't go just now, but nice to see that the other stinker is out.

Djerdap, what DO you like about the Cure?

djerdap 01-21-2013 05:32 PM

A couple of songs are alright I guess. ;)

And In Between Days

It's probably obvious at this point that I gravitate heavily toward the minimalist, shadowy element of The Cure, but Just Like Heaven is one of the most perfectly-orchestrated pop songs I have ever heard.

I have seen a few articles declaring it the most perfect pop song ever recorded

cobl04 01-22-2013 12:57 AM

That would be Hey Ya!

Back to your regularly scheduled Cure survivor.

I would definitely argue with you on that one for a while, not that I don't think Hey Ya! is up there.

It must be one if those articles said so.

But the question still lingers - did J Mascis do it better?

bono_212 01-22-2013 03:35 AM

I never said that because the article said so it was true, just saying that it's not an uncommon opinion.

One that I hold.

Regardless, don't you go starting that argument again
