Pick the Best Music of 2007!

It’s that time again! As 2007 draws to a close, Interference main page editors Andy Smith and Kimberly Egolf will be developing an-end-of-the-year round-up to note the best music released since January first.

The end-result will be something like (or something a little different than) this piece that Andy and Carrie Alison posted at the end of last year: http://forum.interference.com/a171077.html

And like last year, the editors want input from those that post in ‘Just the Bang and the Clatter’.

So, let’s use this thread to post our best-albums-of-2007 lists. Post your top 10, your top 20, or your top whatever. Explain and justify your choices if you like (or not). Annotate your lists with key tracks if you like (or not). Post the best-of-lists from your favorite music blog or zine if you like (or not).

Let the listing begin!!!

Very cool. When is the cut off for submissions?

hippy 11-26-2007 09:54 AM

Andy and I probably won't be writing our year-end review for a couple of weeks... so you have awhile :)

Anu 11-26-2007 12:10 PM

Since your editors moonlight as English professors, I expect the absolute earliest we will compile our year-end thingy is after our final grades for school are done (for me, December 7), and it will more likely appear on the site at the very end of December.

So, take your time and have fun.

BonoIsMyMuse 11-26-2007 07:32 PM

December 7? Our finals don't even start until the 17th :madspit:

You inclusion of the weakest track off Volta on your standouts list is disturbing, young one.

LMP 11-27-2007 08:15 PM

I was disappointed with Volta, but really dug that track. Get your smiting stick ready.

Lancemc 11-27-2007 08:17 PM

Pfft, when don't I have my smiting stick at the ready?

When you're looking at pictures of The Zooey. HIGH-OH.

Anyway, my experience with Volta was probably like your experience with In Rainbows, to put it into perspective.

Some of my favourites from 2007 (in no particular order):

Stars:In Our Bedroom After The War

The National: Boxer

Arcade Fire: Neon Bible

Kanye West: Graduation

Bloc Party: A Weekend In The City

The White Stripes: Icky Thump

Band of Horses: Cease To Begin

Radiohead: In Rainbows

phillyfan26 11-27-2007 09:56 PM

Magic by Bruce Springsteen
Neon Bible by Arcade Fire
Graduation by Kanye West (maybe the first hip hop album I've been able to get into)
All of a Sudden I Miss Everyone by Explosions in the Sky
Icky Thump by The White Stripes

All of these have been mentioned, but deserve to be re-mentioned. Especially "Magic." It's now my second favorite Springsteen album ever.

I know Atlas is fucking sick, but in what universe is it better than Fake Empire?? That really hurt my feelings :grumpy:

I say you start the Best Films thread and let the mods add a sticky later.
