Mofo???

That may be the best lyrics Bono has ever written! I'd rank it amongst the 10 best U2 songs ever.

And Dirty Day?

... Idiot.

God Part III 07-24-2006 09:59 PM

And:

Vertigo, Beautiful Day, In A Little While aren't lame.

However, why isn't Love And Peace Or Else on the list...?

"where i grew up there weren't many trees, where there were we'd tear them up to use them on our enemies"
this is the worse line bono has ever used, i am cringing now thinkng about it, so peace on earth has to be in my list!!

the remix of sweetest thing is a little bit sickly in parts but i couldn't include it because the original is so great.
Hands that built america is also a bit :yuck: in places but is generally very good.

lol, I actually really like this line because it's just a factual truth
there is no symbolism, no nothing, it just is what it is

much like the Omagh bombing just is what it is
no heroism, no beauty, no victory: just death

true, very true salome, but that line does me in every time, cant explain why at the moment, like a few lines in wild honey, but otherwise i like both these songs quite a lot

An Cat Gav 07-25-2006 06:05 AM

out of interest liamcool, what songs get into your top 11?

liamcool 07-25-2006 06:06 AM

I'm a heartbreaker. My favourite U2 album is Images And Words.

 If only ...!

Axver's Top 11 lame U2 songs:

11. A Room At The Heartbreak Hotel: I can see why this was a b-side. Very weak.
10. So Cruel: Good lyrics can't save a musically weak and uninspiring song.
9. Love Rescue Me: The sonic equivalent of anaesthetic?
8. Babyface: If U2 were rehearsing aboard a train and it crashed, this is what the accident would sound like.
7. Playboy Mansion: What a total failure.
6. TTTYAATW: This would be dull even as a b-side.
5. Ultra Violet: the chorus feels eerily prophetic of the Backstreet Boys.
4. Stuck In A Moment: Talk about cringeworthy. I can't believe U2 made this song - and then produced the living daylights out of it.
3. In A Little While: I thought Bono could sing? This song indicates otherwise.
2. One: agonisingly cliche; the only good part isn't even on the album! (the "do you hear us coming" verse)
1. Red Light: cheesy and sucktastic on all levels.

Elvis Ate America should probably be at #2 but given the debate over whether it counts as a U2 song, I left it out.

An Cat Gav 07-25-2006 06:22 AM

I forgot about Red Light, that deserves to be in there!
I loved In a little while until i saw it on the boston elevation dvd, now i cant listen to the record without wincing, i keep hearing bono's awful, fake american accent

excuse my ignorance, but what are dream theatre like? What kind of music is it? Would you recommend i make a purchase?

liamcool 07-25-2006 06:27 AM

I really like Red Light too.

Dream Theater (the band get really pissed at that mistake, ergo why I corrected) are quite a good band, but maybe not perfect for all U2 fans. There's some stuff by them that sounds U2-ish, and some stuff that sounds like, say, Pink Floyd, and so on and so forth. If you're intrigued about making a purchase, I'd suggest getting Images And Words, which is their most rounded release (not my personal favourite, but it has elements of pretty much every other album on it)

Dream Theater pretty much has defined the third wave of progressive rock and helped in the development of progressive metal (whether they're prog rock or metal is up for debate). They are crazily technically proficient, and Images And Words is pretty much the standard that prog bands since then have been trying to achieve. There is a joke that goes: "the more an album sounds like Images And Words, the more progressive it is."

My list:

Wild Honey
Wild Honey
Wild Honey
Wild Honey
Wild Honey
