Edmonton Oilers!!!

I know that there are Oiler fans out there. Show your faces!

Are you guys excited about our new team?

I'm convinced that our boys are going to do very well this year. The whole city of Edmonton (and much of central Alberta) expect them to. I believe that when people expect great things from you, you achieve great things. Let's hope that this proves true for the Oilers this season.

Much has been said of Pronger and Peca, but I think that this will be the breakout year for Hemsky! In the 03/04 season, I witnessed brief moments of incredible hockey from Hemsky. If he can get comfortable with the NHL's new rules and develop some confidence, he could score 30 goals this year. I know that might be a stretch, but remember; the new rules will allow for more scoring.

So which rookie will get a shot at a centre position, Schremp or Statsny? I think the Oilers would be dumb not to give Schremp a shot. There is going to be a boatload of powerplays, and Schremp, being a powerplay specialist, is going to help. Lowe wil put either Schremp or Statsny in for the first part of the season and if things aren't working out, he'll sign a big-name centre (Handzus & Zoltok have both been rumoured).

We only have a few weeks until the puck drops for the regular season. Needless to say, I'm pumped about my team.

GO OILERS!

zoney! 09-20-2005 08:22 PM

Booster...Go start a NHL 2005 thread...we will have this merged into that one (it is better to have all convo in one spot)

Statsny will be the one to watch, in my opinion. Edmonton will again have a fast team, as is their legacy...the big questions for them will goals against, and whether Pronger can stay injury-free.

On a side note, it's too bad Messier couldn't finish out his career in Edmonton....his retirement seems so anticlimactic after the lockout.:(

you did. but then it was swallowed by the myNHL behemoth.

this will be the thread for the season. when wade belak bags his 50th in february, this is where we will celebrate.

AvsGirl41 09-23-2005 12:02 PM

Farewell, Deadmarsh.

He was my favorite Avalanche before Skoula and it's sad to see him retire. He was a good, gritty player. It was the beginning of the end for the Avs when they traded him. (Though, given his injury, they probably would have been in the same predictament.)

Zoomerang96 09-24-2005 01:48 PM

haha, wade belak?

lots of players retired recently, including deadmarsh.

bure still hasn't. he said he'll make up his mind in october/november after checking with NA doctors once more on any progress being made to his right knee that has already had 7 ma7or surgeries...

It SUCKED!

Pittsburg sent the IHL team (Scranton-Wilkes Barre) to play. Crosby wasn't there. Jagr wasn't there. Gonchar...NO ONE. I am a little pissed. BUT, it was good to see hockey.

Caps won 3-2.

boosterjuice 09-26-2005 12:37 AM

Sens seem to have a great team this year. I'll be expecting them finish first in the east. As for the playoffs???

Jagr wasn't there because he is on my team, the NY Rangers....now after stating that.... it will be a long winter here for Ranger fans I predict. But it is good to have the NHL back.....

Thora 09-26-2005 02:18 AM

Hi all. I'm a Canucks fan here. So far in the preseason we haven't been doing well, but I'm confident we have a great season in front of us. I have tickets for the Oct 5 opening, and I am SO excited to finally be able to go to a hockey game again. It's been TOO long! Have a great night.

zonelistener 09-26-2005 08:38 AM

sorry...meant mario...not Jagr

Lemon Meringue 09-26-2005 08:38 PM

Andrew Brunette is with the Avs now. Oh the pain!!!!!!

GibsonGirl 09-26-2005 08:48 PM

The Pens sent out an IHL team? That sucks! I was interested to see how Crosby would perform.

The Habs are doing well in the pre-season. I just hope Ryder's injury will heal soon...

boosterjuice 09-28-2005 12:25 PM

I'm telling you, keep your eyes on Hemskey with the Oilers. He opened a can of whoopass last night against the flames.

RavenBlue 09-29-2005 08:08 AM

I see Hasek went to Ottawa. I thought he was retired. I've never been a big fan of him, but if he can help out the Sens then I'm cool with that.

boosterjuice 09-30-2005 05:08 PM

5 more days until puck drops!!!

Anyone else having a NHL season opening party on Wednesday?

I live near Hershey...and the Hershey Bears are the Caps IHL team this year.

Gibsongirl...

I was really bummed when they scratched Crosby. I plan on heading to Pittsburgh to see a game this year though!

Good, you'll get a chance to see him then. Just watching him playing on TV is magical - to see him right there must be really great. I just hope he doesn't let his early success get to his head. I don't think he will though.

boosterjuice 10-04-2005 02:22 PM

Anyone watch Roger's Sportsnet NHL Season Preview last night???

The theme song for whole show was Vertigo! They even had this ridiculous , but funny, rendition of Vertigo where they changed the song lyrics to recap all the moves in the NHL. It was very funny.

I came to the conclusion that Vertigo is a perfect NHL song.

YEah...something all about the spanish in it! :D

Habs and Bruins tied at the moment 1-1.

Rangers just scored on the Flyers... :(

I am finding it hard getting my ass off the couch to go for a run with Hockey on.

GibsonGirl 10-05-2005 08:00 PM

You know you've been deprived of hockey when you willingly listen a crappy live stream of the game over the Internet. I can't wait until I go home this weekend so that I can watch RDS! I'm very interested to see how the new rules will affect the game. Saturday will be a great game too - Habs versus the Maple Laughs. Can't wait! :hyper:

Damn it, Kovalev, start firing. He had ONE shot that entire first period.

ladywithspinninghead 10-05-2005 09:30 PM

My poor Penguins are getting slaughtered...WHY???
So much for the dream team

Oh well, at least the Habs won! Must be the vibes left from U2 playing at the Fleet Centre last night! :hyper:

GibsonGirl 10-05-2005 10:05 PM

HA! I love you, Michael Ryder. Always have, always will! (As long as the Leafs never decide to pick you up).

Must be! Even the commentator on the radio channel I was listening in on mentioned it. I think they played Elevation twice over the arena speakers. Better than Vertigo twice, I suppose.

You must have willed him to shoot more...Ryder got the rebound off his shot with 11 seconds left! Ryder's THE MAN...he's a great player, plus he's from here, not that I'm biased or anything:wink:

Btw, which do you prefer, hockey or cricket? I've always thought of cricket as baseball for the other side of the world, but I realize I could be completely wrong...I know nothing about it, except for the fact that the players get super elated whenever they win, score a point, etc.

I know! I nearly got a fine from the RA, I yelled that loud! It's actually kind of exciting listening to it on the radio, because you're on the edge of your seat when the commentator starts using his "excited" voice.

Ryder IS the man! I even drove all the way to Hicktown last summer to snap a shot of his sign! (I also think I saw the back of his head at the petrol station there, but I might be wroooong).

http://www.flickerandfade.org/rydersign.jpg

Being a native of South Africa, I prefer rugby. Cricket is a close second. I've come to appreciate hockey a lot though, since moving to Canada in 2001. It's such an exciting game. And pbbbbhhbt, never mention cricket and baseball in the same sentence ever again! :tsk:

And the announcer on the French channel I was watching it on too - he was complaining about the ice and blaming it on U2!

That's hilarious!... I know too well what that "excited" voice is like! I used to be a huge Gretzky/Ranger fan a few years ago. I was so dedicated, I would listen to AM Radio broadcasts late at night, when I could actually pick up faint New York station signals if I tuned the dial ever so gently...:nerd::wink:

The fact that you're from South Africa is a great story...I'm guessing hockey is not even on the radar there? You've become a great appreciator in such a short time.

I'll have to take a nod from you and expand my sporting mind. Hockey has been the only game I've watched/played with laser-like focus.

One thing I know for sure, however, those Rugby players are the toughest bastards on the planet, from what I've seen... = rugby face. Plus, they have great-looking socks...

Vancouver used to have this for every game in the playoffs of 2003-2004 I think.

I also noticed streets for the Toronto game.

boosterjuice 10-06-2005 03:20 AM

Who liked the Toronto-Ottawa shoutout???

I loved it! It really is an exciting part of the game now.

How about my Oilers??? Great to see them in fine form (with the exception of Conklin). MAn, Horcoff really has improved his game. He was dominant out there.

UberBeaver 10-06-2005 08:43 AM

And the Islanders blew it. It's just like old times! YAY!

Yes, and when Canada was playing at the last Olympics, they ALWAYS had Streets playing when the Canadian team came out onto the ice!!

Okay, for anyone who watched the Pens game last night because they only showed clips here and I was watching the Habs - did the Pens really stink or was Brodeur really THAT good??

It's only the first game. The Pens shall rise again soon enough. Regardless, they actually have a team I'm proud of for the first time in around 8 years  GO PENS GO !!!

NYRangers78 10-06-2005 08:07 PM

the rangers are tied 2-2 with the canadiens...goddamn hockey looks great in HD...the rangers played city of blinding lights and all because of you during pre game introduction stuff tonight for the home opener.

zoney! 10-06-2005 10:56 PM

I was wondering the same thing about the Pens. I was watching the NYRangers versus The Flyers.

RavenBlue 10-08-2005 08:34 AM

The Penguins game picked up in the second and third periods. I was really hoping Crosby would get a goal... but he did really well!

That Cam Ward of the Hurricanes is freaking incredible. He'll be one to watch for sure.

ron & don are back tonight  i dont really like it when the leafs play montreal. i much prefer ottawa or philly buffalo etc. its always a bit anti climatic
