Bono knighted?
In the Dec./Jan. issue of rolling stone it listed possible candidates for who will be the next knight. the list was as follows:
1. Rod Stewart; Odds- 4 to 6
2. Ringo Starr; Odds- even money
3. Charlie Watts; Odds- 2 to 1
4. George Michael; Odds- 4 to 1
5. Bono; Odds- 8 to 1

Now doesn't anyone else think that Bono deserves to be knighted, especially with all the charity work he does!

Don't you have to be English to be knighted?

1stepcloser 04-25-2005 03:37 PM

I think you have to be British (england, scotland, wales and northern ireland)

I don't think Bono would want to be knighted, not at the moment anyway

It is possible for him to get an honorary knighthood like Rudy Guiliani did....but considering some of the bad blood between the Irish and the Brits, I doubt it would happen.

hey, bob geldofs been knighted, so who knows. 'sir bono' doesnt have a rock and roll feel to it tho

mkdominatr 04-25-2005 03:59 PM

arent people usually older when knighted? ei. Mick Jagger, Paul McCartney, Elton i honestly dont know the crudentials that go into contention. .... wasnt Clapton named something...whatever is below a knight i think.

Do these titles have any meaning? Does Paul McCartney have any special privileges or something? Frankly, I couldn't care less. Let Bono remain a rock star.

I saw that article and my first thought was Bono would be mortified and NOT! want this. I think...

Bono was honored by the country of France. Basically a similar ceremony where he was given the title of "cheveliar" or something like that.

He could get an honorary like Bill Gates. I think the rule is you get the Sir in front of your name if you're a citizen of the Commonwealth or a Briton.

I would rather have Charlie Watts knighted! That would be awesome! :applaud:

I think they should wait some 10 years to knight Bono.

BrownEyedBoy 04-25-2005 09:56 PM

Hey if we have a Sir Elton John anything could happen.

Saracene 04-25-2005 10:39 PM

All hail Sir Drinkalot! :D

with that in mind, Bono would be well within his right to turn down a knighthood

Um, Sean Connery was knighted and he's Scottish. Bill Gates was knighted as well and he's...American.
