We've already got a speculation and discussion thread. But that's for staying within the bounds of reality. Here, post what you'd love the band to do but know they won't consider. Like sets containing the back-to-front idea.

I'd love this and think it would work very well:

1. Out of Control
2. I Will Follow
-- Bono greets the crowd, says they're going to play some tunes from before the Joshua Tree as part of the journey there --
3. Sunday Bloody Sunday
4. The Electric Co.
5. Gloria
6. Pride
7. A Sort of Homecoming
8. New Year's Day
-- Bono gives a speech about JT, that "we've got one song to go and then we'll get into it, but we're doing it with a twist, you'll see..." --
9. Bad
10. Mothers of the Disappeared
11. Exit
-- talk about JT and what it means to them, especially the next song --
12. One Tree Hill
13. Trip Through Your Wires
14. In God's Country
-- more talk about JT, "playing some special songs for you" --
15. Red Hill Mining Town
16. Running to Stand Still
17. Bullet the Blue Sky
18. With or Without You
-- thanks and final remarks--
19. I Still Haven't Found
20. Where the Streets Have No Name

21. The Fly
22. Mysterious Ways
-- "it's the twentieth for another album!" --
23. Staring at the Sun
-- "we're now looking to the future, see you soon" --
24. SOE lead single

-- pretend to be humbled in coming back for a second encore --
25. Beautiful Day
26. Spanish Eyes
27. 40

Eh, I was going for a "realistic" unrealistic set there, with SATS a sly nod to U2 moderately fucking up any Pop representation - since I think them doing even one song from Pop is unrealistic in the first place. That's why I said it would work very well; it's paced to appeal to a stadium crowd (I wouldn't have otherwise put in Pride or BD) but has enough great deep cuts and twists that U2 would never actually be bold enough to do it.

A ludicrous first encore would be:

Gone
Until the End of the World
Last Night on Earth
The Fly

1. Electric Co.
2. Gone
3. This is Where You Can Reach Me Now
4. Until the End of the World
5. Who's Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses
6. Desire
7. Stay
8. Dirty Day
9. New Year's Day
10. Lemon (midnight segue into MOTD)
11-21. Reverse JT

22. Mofo
23. Discotheque
24. Zooropa
25. All I Want is You

26. Bad
27. 40

Pearl Jam is playing The Joshua Tree on tour this year? Cool.
And you're 8-10 songs short on your set list length.

Awesome work as always, Ax!

If they get a bit bold, that isn't too far off.

If nothing else, I'd love to see the early /mid 1980s idea to start off remain in tact for these shows!

I know some people here want the band to play nothing post-JT era (so including R&H) across the entire show, not just in the opening songs. I'm certain the band would never contemplate it.

But this, this would be my fucking dream if the option were on the table:

1. 11 O'clock Tick Tock
2. Desire with shredding solo
3. All Along the Watchtower
4. The Electric Co.
5. Rejoice
6. Gloria
7. Twilight
8. A Sort of Homecoming

25. Beautiful Day
26. Spanish Eyes
27. 40

That would actually be incredible, only one track is missing - Zoo Station!

1. Beautiful Day - One of their most beloved songs and it should open up the shows as Day turns into Night.

2. Out of Control or The Electric Co.
3. 11 O'Clock Tick Tock
4. Gloria
4. New Year's Day
5. Two Hearts Beat As One
6. A Sort of Homecoming - Just do it already!
7. MLK
8. Pride - Inevitable. Whatevs.
9. Bad - What a way to close the first set! Provided it isn't lethargic like on the last tour.

(Short Break...video leading into this section)

10-20. The Joshua Tree. They can mix this up however they would like, really, but it should really all be together, especially given the plan to have early stuff at the start, likely AB stuff at the end.

21. The Fly - What better way to start the encore than to chop down the Joshua Tree?
22. Who's Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses - A fan favorite done with actual strong rehearsals and a nice AB song that is out of the ordinary.
23. Stay - Why not have this be the penultimate song? Just a bit more band heavy than acoustic-y.
24. 40

There. 24 songs is reasonable and there's almost nothing out of the ordinary that they would need to learn how to play.

Call this "what a fan could reasonably expect at best" setlist.

I Will Follow
Gloria
New Year's Day
Sunday Bloody Sunday
Pride
Bad

The Joshua Tree in its original running order

Even Better Than The Real Thing
Mysterious Ways
One

Mofo (rotate with Zooropa)
Beautiful Day
City Of Blinding Lights
Vertigo

That's pretty reasonable. Maybe just a little long. Aside from reheasing JT, you're only asking them to re-learn one song, Mofo.

As long as it's not that Vertigo soundcheck version of Mofo.

1. Zoo Station
2. The Electric Co.
3. The Fly
4. Until the End of the World
5. A Sort of Homecoming
6. Bad
7. Sunday Bloody Sunday (Trump rant #1)
8. God part II
9. Hawkmoon 269
10. Where The Streets Have No Name
11. I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For (Nostalgic rant #1)
12. With or Without You
13. Bullet The Blue Sky (Trump rant #2)
14. Running To Stand Still
15. Red Hill Mining Town
16. In God's Country / Heartland
17. Trip Through Your Wires
18. One Tree Hill
19. Exit
20. Mothers of the Disappeared
21. Zooropa
22. Mysterious Ways (Champagne Toast – “This has been the Songs of Experience setlist - there is no new record!!”)
23. Ultraviolet (Nostalgic rant #2)
24. Numb (backed by Run the Jewels)
25. October
26. Pride
27. Elevation
28. Unchained Melody
29. All I want Is You
30. Wake Up Dead man (Band retirement confirmation #1)
31. 40 (Band retirement confirmation #2 - band walks off to video montage from past 40 years)

As long as it's not that Vertigo soundcheck version of Mofo.

 yeah bloody hell, that version can fuck right off. If they do ever bring Mofo back, I imagine things have sort of come full circle, so they'd feel they can use the synth loops and stuff again rather than having to "ROCK IT UP" out of embarrassment.

Anyone going in GA, please run to the front with all your might and sing 'The Cross' as loud as you can, while staring at Bono. Or shout "EVERYBODY'S LOOKIN'FOR THE LADDER"

just for fun, since we've had some rehearsals

01 A Sort of Homecoming
02 Sunday Bloody Sunday
03 Gloria
04 Pride (in the Name of Love)
05 The Electric Co
06 October
07 New Year's Day
08 Bad / 40 (as the crowd sings 40, all lights go out in the stadium and an interlude/song, much like Zooropa on I&E begins...)
09 Heartland (with visuals slowly tying into the Joshua Tree era, segueing intro the intro to...)
----
10 Where the Streets Have No Name
11 I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For
12 With or Without You
13 Bullet the Blue Sky
14 Running to Stand Still
15 Red Hill Mining Town
16 In God's Country
17 Trip Through Your Wires
18 One Tree Hill
19 Exit
20 Mothers of the Disappeared
---
20 Beautiful Day (extended intro)
21 Ultraviolet (Light My Way)
22 One
23 Kite
---
24 Gone
25 Miss Sarajevo
26 The Little Things That You Give Away

I think there's some sort of narrative/theme with Sarajevo, they seem very set on having it in the set. probably deals with the current political climate I guess....they've put worse shit in there (Hands) and I don't hate Sarajevo like many here do and really hope it makes it in the set

Kite is a pipe dream because I really want to see that live (best song from ATYCLB) and so is Gone, but I think they're going to add something upbeat to the closing sequence they featured last night. sure, it could be Vertigo, COBL, whatever, but this is the "ideal" setlist thread dammit! they've done Zoo Station, Hold Me Thrill Me, and Ultraviolet all as encore openers before. let me dream

also I really think Heartland is going to show up. but who knows. this would probably be a bit more realistic if you cut Kite out.
