It's GA "line" shenanigan time!

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.

Yeah. My goal was to find a spot near the back with lots of space to move and jump and easily find a sightline to the band as needed. I had friends with me who had numbers for the line, but when they woke up they decided to bag it and hung with me in the back, and had an absolute blast.

"Had numbers for the line" and "woke up". :|

Oh hush. It is what it is. Not everyone who participates in the line is pulling shenanigans, they're just participating in the "system."

The system *is* shenanigans but it's all there is right now. The I+e MSG 5PM "final check in and line up" was total first world problems but what was the ultimate harm? I'd wager little. Reported physical shit on the rail with space holders is a different situation entirely.

Last tour's GA mgmt was really good overall I think. Smaller venues helped. SAP in San Jose was perfect! The SAP security team had a spot outside handing out numbered wrist bands and said "Don't come back until 4:00". Then everyone lined up by number at that time and we cruised in. Hung out during the day at a pub and had a blast. I don't mind hanging all day at a venue, because it's fun to be with like minded U2 crazies, but when there's little control or organization by the venue it gets a little nuts. (like last Rose Bowl show....)

They were both short as well, and even with numbers in the 300s for Vancouver, they were about 7 rows back but totally jammed into their spots and could barely move (much less see), so they didn't really enjoy the show that much.

All 500 numbers were assigned by the time we showed up, I'm guessing we were around 600 or so and we managed 4 deep from the rail on b stage. Looked fairly sparse near front of stage but by showtime we were packed in pretty tight. Take that into consideration

What did DID you show up?

my Seattle GA experience

between getting back late from a flight on saturday and a friend who bought tickets with me going back and forth on if he could come or not, we got into the line around 3 o'clock.

not long after i got in line (basically around the corner of WaMu, near the garage entrance) the Edge came by in a van waving to everyone. then Bono and Adam got out of some other cars and waved at everyone briefly. it was cool, but i didn't get a photo.

met some very nice people in line, had some snacks, and hid from the brief rain. after my wife went to check out the merch, she said that some of the line had started to move. i had been planning on getting seattle dogs before we went in, so i walked down to one of the little booths. it took longer than expected, and as i was walking back, i noticed my wife waving frantically right before security. we downed (most of) our dogs before security.

so at around 4ish, we went through the scanners. the CLink rules about plastic bags meant that one of our new friends in line couldn't bring her small purse in by itself, but we could take it in in our plastic tote that we purchased for Sounders games. so weird, but whatever. had to ditch some snacks, but we had our sealed waters, some other snacks, and jackets in the plastic bag without issue.

CC scan was fine, i got my ID out and they said they didn't even need it. got through lightning fast. waited in the event center/WaMu for about an hour-ish before getting in.

got in the stadium about...5 or 530. was about 8-10 people back from the b stage. wife and i are tall so it wasn't too bad of a view. some iphones in the way at times, but i was doing the same occasionally so i can't complain. had time to grab a pricey beer and churros, which was nice.

started to fill up around 6, sat on the ground to save space for our two new friends from the line that went to get some food. got to know the people in our immediate vicinity, which worked out well when some dude and his wife just pushed right in after mumford. nobody had seen them before and they just silently pushed through. they got in between myself and my wife, so i politely pushed past so i could stand behind her. some of the people around us got irritated at them, but i decided that silently holding the ground i'd had for hours was the best course of action. typical GA drama ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

otherwise, i loved the show. was so close to every band member aside from Larry on the b stage. loved the graphics/vids, loved vedder's appearance, it was just great overall. still buzzing and have sore feet!

Thanks for the info. Just out of curiosity, by "great spot" do you mean close to the stage? How close? The reason I ask is that I'm short (5' 2) and GA doesn't work for me if I'm behind 10+ people that are taller than me. So that's why I line up early. I'm getting kind of nervous for Levi's Stadium and Rose Bowl because the venues aren't opening the parking lots until later in the day. Do you know how far back in the line you were? Thanks so much. I'm so excited, but this part always gets me stressed out. :hyper:

Exactly. I'm 5'3.5" and need to line up super early as I want to be able to actually see the show without staring up at a screen constantly... Luckily I've had rail each of the times I've done GA.

Well the good news is my friends have rearranged their flights and we should all be able to be there by 8am so crisis hopefully averted :hyper:

Levi's definitely handled their business. People were lined up and brought through security and cc scanning one by one at 2pm through the B gates in the parking lot. Then got in another queue just outside the main gate. Again everyone was reviewed to make sure they were in number order. At 5, they opened the main gates and escorted people into the tunnel, 50 at a time with about a 30 second gap between groups. All he'll broke loose when on the field - lots of running and ramming toward the main stage and B stage. Overall most people very respectful about numbers and queuing.

Fwiw we were around 240 and made it to the person behind the rail on center main stage. Full review after the show.

McGuinness used to do that too but I think he was just looking for spare change that may have fallen out of the pockets of workers and fans.

When you say "number order" are you referring to the fan-made list? Was the arena actually going by this? Or were there numbered wristbands handed out before this check?

The fans just must have had their own list and I noticed some people with numbers on their hands. Levi's handed out Joshua Tree wristbands that basically were there just to prove you could be on the floor and get back on the floor if necessary. Those weren't numbered.

The entire thing was handled very, very well. The real problem was that so many freakin' people were lining up so early, especially when things technically weren't supposed to begin until 2 PM today...never witnessed a queue like that for any show in my life and other U2 Bay Area shows were absolutely mild by comparison. I mean, to show up just before 3:30 and have 1,000 people in front of you is nothing short of surprising.

You want to experience Springsteen shows in Europe.
London last year broke 1000 at 8am on the day of the show.

I'm stupid. Last tour at MSG we got paper GA tickets, so I could give them to anyone and they could get in. No CC needed entry.

i have 4 hard GA tickets to Gillette Boston. 2 sets of 2 they way I see it. So can Joe and Janet get my extra tickets and get in w/o me in Boston?

I'm old and dense. Maybe Boston is the only exception to the rule and no one knows.

(Ticketmaster shows CC for Met Life, but nothing on Gillette) so I think i'm right?

Gillette for whatever reason is not CC entry. I believe the only show this leg without it.

So you can give your tickets to Joe and Janet or Bob and Carol and Ted and Alice and it will be fine.
