I just came across this video from Chicago, 12 September:

YouTube - U2-"Ultraviolet Light"-Chicago-9.12.09

That's obviously a new intro to UV. Strangely, the videos for 13 September show the old intro with the Auden poem and the colours (which I like better).

Was this only shown in Chicago for one concert or also in Toronto? I'm curious to know why they showed this once and went back to the other intro for the next show.

And does anyone know what intro that is?

A Brave and Startling Truth
Maya Angelou

We, this people on a small and lonely planet
Traveling through causal space
Past aloof stars, across the way of indifferent suns
To a destination where all signs tell us
It is possible and imperative that we discover
A brave and startling truth..........
.......
We, this people, on this small and drifting planet
Whose hands can strike with such abandon
That in a twinkling, life is sapped from the living
Yet those same hands can tough with such healing, irresistible tenderness
That the haughty neck is happy to bow
And the proud back is glad to bend
Out of such chaos, of such contradiction
We learn that we are neither devils or divines
When we come to it
We, this people, on this wayward, floating body
Created on this earth, of this earth
have the power to fashion for this earth
A climate where every man and every woman
Can live freely without sanctimonious piety
And without crippling fear
When we come to it
We must confess that we are the possible
We are the miraculous, the true wonders of this world
That is when,
and only when
We come to it.

also, the backing music to that intro is the theme from the swan. i flipped out in chicago because i thought it meant your blue room, with all of the space imagery. very cool, although like you i preferred the one from the second night - it was the one i wanted to see as well.

i liked the first night for UV with the robotic green screen, I dodnt like the TO 2 with the apple on screen and the poem.

Wow, that's beautiful, thank you!

I don't know about the song, though.

Bono sings a different vocal melody in the newest intro in the very beginning...sounds so fucking good...and he sings the entire intro to UV perfectly in that clip. In terms of vocals, that's the best UV intro of the tour so far.

The american people can count themselfs lucky, the visuals etc are much more improved compared to the european shows, can't wait to see the improved 360 tour back next year in europe. :)

yeah, i didn't realize until after, when it was brought up. i was like "oh yeah..." though that's just because i never listen to that song. :reject:
i knew it was a passengers song, but i couldn't remember which one until we were walking out of the stadium. pretty much the last u2 song i ever expected to hear in any form at a u2 show.

I just realised it's Bono's voice in the intro

What's that song he's singing? The new intro is beautiful. But I somehow liked the visuals with the differently coloured squares better.

I prefer the new one. Robot voice was creepy and it ruined Auden's song for me. I didn't feel the poem was about love and death, I was just waiting for the "Resistance is futile. You will be assimilated" part.

That's what I thought as well. I liked the intros both nights.

 Robot Voice

Trinx:wave:

Do you know where I can find what is being said? I can make out a few things but not all:huh:

I prefer the second intro as well. It is much more appropriate for the theme for this tour with the notion of space, time, and fantasy. The imagery on the screen is also spectacular, almost like watching a Dali painting in motion.
