I wish they would just play Drowning Man and see how it goes...Personally I think we will all recover fine the new fans will be introduced to possibly something new to them..and the old fans will be elated at hearing the song finally. So whats the problem?! :)

I think Drowning Man - Bad - Where the Streets have no Name would be be awesome

Agreed. Even if DM does suck the life out of the stadium, what better 2 songs than Bad and Streets to breathe it back in to everybody? Bad --> Streets on the Elevation tour was a breathe taking transition, the highlight of the show! Also, throwing in the "When I look at the world" snippet wouldn't hurt either!

I will actually be very surprised if they don't play Drowning Man at least once in Dublin. 3 shows to spread the setlist over... seems pretty likely.

I've always been pretty "whatever" about the whole setlist thing, but ffs they sure overthink this stuff don't they? The set can't recover from DM, the band can't/couldn't recover after playing Acrobat/B can't sing RHMT (I guess it's Milli Vanilli on the album?). I could see if they were just being perfectionist about it, but Christ they've been going through the motions playing WoWY for 5 tours running now and we all survived. Sack up and play the fucking thing.

It's probably a good thing I'm not involved with U2 building their setlist

but why not jump headfirst into it? No need to cripple the audience with existential angst every night, to be sure, but on a 2nd or 3rd show weave some combination of Exit, BTBS, Please, and Drowning Man into a bigger arc with Ultraviolet/AIWIY or a few other heavy hitters to pull out.

This is already veering into shameful setlist porn. The point is, there's material they've written that could fit with DM thematically, which appears to be the sticking point.

After listening to two clips of the song from rehearsals, i think it'd be a crime for them to not give it a go atleast once

Just start the chant "We want Drowning Man" "We want Drowning Man" "We want Drowning Man" "We want Drowning Man" "We want Drowning Man" "We want Drowning Man" "We want Drowning Man" "We want Drowning Man" "We want Drowning Man" "We want Drowning Man" "We want Drowning Man" "We want Drowning Man"!!!!!

The boys will hear it reverberating throughout the stadium and they'll have to play it the next night!!!!

Replace it with Ultra Violet when the set has already had Elevation and UTEOTW earlier. That would balance it perfectly and it would typically fit the closing show (I rather not recover after the last show!). Of course people will moan about not 'having' UV but then again people will always moan...even if Drowning Man has been played...

Frankly, Willie, I'd like a "double-whammy of beautiful melancholy". Hell, I'd like a whole concert of "beautiful melancholy" "Beautiful Melancholy" would be a good album title too!

I do wish they'd at least ditch Vertigo, Pride, and Elevation! And they need to play "Crazy Tonight" properly and ditch that live-remix garbage. (Oh, and that vapid Tutu nonsense needs to go too!).

No chance of them dropping the Crazy Tonight remix just yet. They love playing it and the crowd goes bonkers for it. But in saying that Elevation can take a hike!

I love the band a ton but, fuck, they obsess over so much....just fucking play it and see what happens.

Completely agree. 3 Nights in Dublin and they really didn't pull anything special out for them. That is pathetic.

I love the band, but they are way too conservative. They are a great band, they have great concerts, they make great music, they are my favorite, but as musicians...I can only say they are MARGINAL.

Most, if not all of their creativity goes in before the shows. You could make an argument that it's all bolted down before before a claw, heart or lemon are in place. It is starting to drive me nuts that they are more interested in large construction than pleasing their fans.

True musicians can mix it up from night to night and after 30 years, they should not be so worried about falling down. Big deal, you'll get up! Why they still act like they have been playing instruments for 3 years is beside me.

NOTE TO U2 - SHOW US YOU ARE THE GREATEST BAND ON THE PLANET, DON'T TELL US!

They'll never play Drowning Man because they feel it simply doesn't work live. It's not a good live song. There are many more songs that could work much better live. There's a reason why they've rehearsed and not played it. I'd rather they went out on stage with songs they feel comfortable with and do believe in than with some half cooked live version of a song that simply doesn't work out.

now... NEVER

or the 2nd leg

NEVER is more posible

They didn't play it in Dublin (as you probably know), but it was soundchecked before the 3rd gig. It got my hopes up, but sadly it didn't appear that evening. In any case, it's still on the band's mind. So who knows...
