I've tried making a good setlist, and I just can't. It's too hard. I'm glad it's U2's job and not mine.

My idea that I've always had is an "ALBUM SHOWCASE MINI-SET". Somewhere in the middle of the show, or maybe as a 1st encore. Kind of like how Vertigo had the Achtung mini-set. Just pick 3 songs from a random album on a given night. That way, they don't have to change up the flow of their setlist, but still stay on their toes, as well as give us fans a surprise.

An example of this could be:
Pop set:
Mofo / Gone / Staring at the sun (FULL BAND VERSION)

October set:
October / I Fall Down / Gloria

Rattle and Hum set:
Hawkmoon 269
God Part II
Angel of Harlem

I think that'd be the perfect solution to the static setlist problem.

The band has to remember that U2360 IS NLOTH promotional tour, and still have not played four songs from the album.

To me that is the priority

Personally, I'd love to see an Unforgettable Fire mini-set of ASOH / Pride / Bad. TUF is a great song, but it fits so perfectly in its current spot I couldn't bear to move it.
A Zooropa / Daddy's Gonna Pay For Your Crashed Car / Lemon mini-set would also be great, especially as an encore. The opening "static" would be great as the encore intro music, IMHO.

Exactly! Any combination from any album is possible. Hell, they could do a sequence like "Is that all?"--> "October"--> "I Fall Down" if they wanted to. I am probably in the 1% of all people who would enjoy that set, but whatever.

I also agree the "TUF", but I get the feeling it's going to get the axe this year. Pitty, but at least I can say that I got to see that song live.

It looks a little light on hits, but all the songs in there have been played regularly in the past. Crowds will respond to good songs played with the energy U2 always plays with.

I think this set fixes the main problems with 360:
1.)Most notably, 5 ATYCLB songs is cut down to 2. In case U2 didn't notice the stadium and the claw, this is not the Elevation Tour.
2.)The opening with a barrage of NLOTH songs. We know and love them, but lets face it. This is not Zoo TV, and NLOTH is not AB in terms of popular knowledge/perception. I think most would agree that Magnificent sounds best with early rockers like I Will Follow and atmospheric anthems like ASOH. Ditto for No Line On The Horizon sounding best with the intensity of Wire and Exit. AB is conducive to a bunch of set list spots in a row, NLOTH definitely sounds best with other material.
3.)The stick to the hits when you stray from the new approach is fixed. WOWY and Still Haven't Found are gone, in favor of a full band Stay and In God's Country. The 80s and 90s are both too good for them to be represented primarily by lackluster performances of the songs everyone hears on the radio every other day. As for Exit and IGC, JT is way too good an album to be represented only by the big 3 so to speak. Some nights, get TTYW, One Tree Hill and Running to Standstill in as well.
4.)Some Pop is included. MOFO and Vertigo platoon, and LNOE is a staple. Gone and Please should be rotated in as well.

and....

It keeps the Unforgettable Fire and Ultraviolet, 2 undisputable highlights of 360!

I think Last Night On Earth, Staring at the Sun, Gone, and Please would be awesome on the 360 tour! They seriously better play some POP songs, I really would love it.

These would be cool changes...

Magnificent (saw this open in Boston... it was amazing!!! No idea why they haven't done this again)
Get On Your Boots
No Line on the Horizon
Mysterious Ways (w/ slide solo)
We Love You/Beautiful Day
Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For
Last Night on Earth
In a Little While (w/ Space Station theme)
(Siren Intro) Vertigo
Unknown Caller
Trying to Throw Your Arms Around the World (album arrangement)
The Unforgettable Fire
City of Blinding Lights
Discotheque (Vertigo Tour arrangement)/Perfecto Remix (segues into)
Crazy Tonight (Remix)
Sunday Bloody Sunday
MLK
Walk On
-----
One
Amazing Grace-->(segues into)
Where the Streets Have No Name
-----
Space Baby Intro
Ultraviolet (Light My Way)
One Step Closer-->
Moment of Surrender

=24 Songs

Some of these songs can be alternated from show to show.

TTYAATW/Stay/Stuck
Last Night on Earth/Until the End of the World/Desire (acoustic)
Breathe/GOYB

One step closer would not be played in full, probably just the intro, one or two the verses, and then the outro. With or Without You should not be played live again until they sing it with passion again.

1. Fez - Being Born
2. No Line on the Horizon

A very good idea

Thank you and yours is nice, too!!

Not that I am an expert like some here(Axver) in this area, but nonetheless, I'll make up endless speculation filled lists with the best of them. Most of the time when I make a list, I look at it afterwards and have 1 of 3 reactions: 1.)It winds up being different enough but way too light on hits and therefore unrealistic; 2.)I can add a song here and there but the structure of the political set always gets in the way and the whole thing does not wind up that much different; or 3.)It just becomes too damn long, and therefore unrealistic!

I think I made a GREAT list last night for once!! I would like to suggest that if U2 wants to fully utilize the claw and blow roofs off of attendance record breaking stadiums, that is how you do it. Come out and hit us with a bunch of rockers right in a row, including songs from Pop and don't let it up until MLK!! Screen expansion issues are not too bad- Vertigo and Crazy, TUF and COBL are still paired up so it is not the yo yo screen, lol! The political set is intact, as are alot of segues they have been using this tour. The encore is the same just swap WOWY for Bad.

I think I will toss around in my mind a little more the idea of pushing the political set earlier so as to give the show time to recover so to speak. On legs 1 and 2, it kind of seemed to go nowhere after Streets, at least in terms of crowd reaction. Of course, I think Ultraviolet was as brilliant as ever if not more, but lets face it, alot of people left thinking "what the hell, we heard Streets that's the best part of the show, Bono's getting all political, the show's been going for about an hour 45 now, how much time could be left? What do you say we beat the rest of these people out of here and get home early?!!" True story- I would NEVER EVER DO IT but I saw it with my own eyes at both Boston shows. Yes, BOSTON, where we usually all stay and scream for a 3rd encore for 10 minutes!!

So I really want to work with the idea of keeping the energy up with some early anthems like I Will Follow and New Year's Day immediately following Streets! Plus, I have always been a fan of the Still Haven't Found add on to end the main set at some Zoo Tv shows! Still Haven't Found has become the cliche "first slow song in the first part of the set" since Popmart and though I think it sounds the best it has in years on 360, it could benefit even more, I think, from getting a new home in the set list.

I just hope we see some changes. Most of the ones suggested by you and others in this thread are realistic and keep in mind U2's history. What frustrates me about 360 is, as we can see in this thread, they are a few tweaks and rearrangements away from an awesome set truly fitting of the claw!!

Awesome!!

All the Pop heavy suggestions here combined with the same on U2.com, which from recent history tells us the band listens to, is really getting me excited! Not to mention, we've turned the page to April and are rapidly approaching the start of Leg 3!!

I am convinced the key to this set is POP and better attention to 80s classics(out of control, All i want is you, ASOH, 2 Hearts, I will follow, etc) in exchange for less ATYCLB!!

Fingers crossed! I completely agree with you about the setlist. I find the band's attachment to ATYCLB absolutely bizarre when there is so much other stuff they could play, from the 80s and 90s.
