The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.

:lmao: I love this forum!

Dan, in Milan I think showtime was 9 pm, so that'll be 8,5 hours from now. :) Milan's timezone is the same as mine, GMT +1, so you can see what time it's there by my local time.

San Siro is smaller so everyone will be closer to the claw. How cool is that!

Were they even in Dublin on July 4th?

Look at the users other videos, he tried really hard to pull off "new songs" during the lead up to the new album release.

No. They haven't been in Dublin since the start of the tour. They are residing in the South of France for the tour. Fucking fake.

Not sure if this has been posted, but it's a pretty cool interview with the designers...plus everything about the CLAW's construction/design issues are being updated on this website for Live Design as the tour progresses.

U2 360 Tour: Stage Design, Lighting Design for U2 360 Tour

Here's the interview....

YouTube - U2 360° Tour - Interview with Willie Williams, Mark Fisher, Chuck Hoberman, Carl Rijsbrack

This is really fantastic. I have met Chuck Hoberman before and he is a very very humble (and brilliant) guy. To see him speak about this screen, for which he only played a part of a team to execute it (rather than his own creation) with such enthusiasm is fantastic.

I am including some clips and facts below from Live Design as they make their content free:

Amazing pictures! Thanks!

Must feel like an earthquake underneath you when you're up in the rigging during a show!!

I've been thinking... For those of you that are going to the Dallas show.... The new Cowboys stadium currently has the "world's largest HD screen (according to Jerry Jones)" hanging from the top going across the field. I seriously have major concerns that the Claw will NOT fit in the stadium with the screen in its current position (it is quite massive). I wonder how they are going to deal with that?

Any thoughts?
It has been explained to me that...

The HD screen at the new Cowboys Stadium was not designed with the necessary mechanisms to raise it into the roof. As a result, part of the reason it took so long for it to be confirmed that U2 was playing there (as opposed to the Cotton Bowl) was that Jerry Jones had to finalize an arrangement to have the HD screen altered to allow it to be raised. I'm told this was not cheap. What I read said something in the $5M range.

I can't recall where I read this, but it was someplace reputable (like the Dallas Observer or some such). So beats me how accurate it is, but it sounds believable.

$5 mil for a one time event - I doubt it.

come on now this is Jerry Jones we are talking about here...$5 mill is pocket change to him. Besides, how much do you think U2 has to pay to play in JerryWorld for on night (plus the setup and teardown of the claw)? I bet its a lot, and JJ's thinking probably is there could be future "claws" or whatever where raising the screen might be a good idea.

I agree that $5M sounded a bit steep, but that's just what I read. I wish I could remember where I read all this; Morning News, Observer, whatever. I know I read it somewhere and didn't just make it up. I tried googling it but couldn't find anything.

thanks for all the new stuff bizk, ouizy & zoorop ! :applaud:

I always liked that Air Controllers' tower in LA!

As an artist I'm also drooling  over the drawn sketches of "The CLAW" as they tried out various configurations!

I'll have to view the interview vids earlier another day, but going to take a look at the Mark Fisher link.

OOOOooo that was great! Happy art&tech  sigh!

:D

I almost want to fast-forward to the end of this tour, and get my hands on the DVD release, in HD, widescreen, with all kinds of bonus features / extra documentaries / easter eggs all about the claw

yes the DVD will be awesome!!

you know here is a funny though, i bet i have watched the VHS/DVD for ZOOTV, PoPMart a million times. And ive even watched Elevation Boston and especially SLANE many, many times. But Vertigo Chicago, i may have watched that once or twice, seriously. It SUCKS!! I have even watched the Milan DVD more than that awful POS Chicago DVD.

But yeah, the 360 tour vid is going to be great. Cant wait.

Yep, Chicago DVD is kinda lame, agreed. The only part I *really* like is "40", but even that is kind of marred by Bono's rambling intro about Chicago city traffic, lol.

For the next DVD, I hope they cherry-pick the best performances of songs from various cities, instead of just doing one concert in one city. But yeah, this one should be amazing.

Is it just me who thinks the screen and claw are being under-utilised so far?

It only extends on two songs, and many songs lack visuals (e.g. Boots, Vertigo)

agreed. but of course this will change as the tour progresses. Remember in the start of the vertigo tour the screen was only brought down for about 6 songs, and near the end, the visuals were much more utilized. once they get the basic show down then they can work on creating more special effects.

hmm... I like the vertigo chicago. Electric Co, the fly, and streets were performed amazingly. However, the brazil show (you can see the whole thing on youtube) was absolutely incredible!!
