You need to build a big firewall at the digital border to stop people like me and friggin' Cobbler getting in.

You should totally board my trojan horse, we'll be allowed in American internet soil if we disguise ourselves as porn.

i picture it as being like one of those old-timey gentlemen's clubs....the kind with hard, uncomfortable leather seats, entire walls as bookshelves full of legal journals and the scent of aged scotch and everyone looks more or less like winston churchill.

Make it happen, mods.

i generally associate it with lou reed.

but i'm pretty out there.

You crazy motherfucker.

HEY!

!
Do you think the creators of MST3K were huge U2 fans? They named the ship on the show after that great little tune of theirs after all.

Maybe. Personally, and I suspect I'm not alone in this, I had never heard of the song before U2 covered it. But the point is being made - with unnecessary and snide rudeness, by a few of the children on here, so I'll try and be more civil - that there's no particular reason to assume Morrissey is giving a nod to U2 by covering that song. Much more likely is that he is simply paying homage to Lou Reed, who he has spoken of approvingly in interviews in the past.

First of all, thanks for being level headed about this. I can be sarcastic at times as well but I honestly have no idea why a simple question incited such juvenile (in a bad way) and crude responses as I really don't think it is that ridiculous of a question.

I really am disheartened as I often wonder what my favorite artists think of each others work and was just curious.

For the record:

1. I did know that it is a Lou Reed song (but not before U2 covered it) and am very knowledgeable when it comes to U2 and Moz.

2. I do agree that my initial question was perhaps a stretch (although not ridiculous or outside the realm of possibility.)

3. I only attempted to correct someone's grammar as they did mine and there was a grammatical error in their correction of mine (which is ridiculous.)

4. I was only referencing a few posters (I think most people reading this thread can guess who) when I wrote that people were being ignorant and did not mean this to apply to everyone who posted...so sorry if I offended others.

5. Almost everyone forgot the second question which was whether or not Moz will mention U2 on the day...which I still think is quite possible. I am still stubborn enough to come back here and post about it if it happens based on all the ridiculousness responses to a simple question (that I still don't think is outside the realm of possibility.) For those who don't now, Moz has referenced U2 when playing live in the past...expressing disdain for not being on the radio like they are.

6. I don't think the world revolves around U2 (even if sometimes mine has!) although if there was one band you could say that about...however it is a pretty big deal generally that they are playing Glastonbury as far as the festival goes (especially considering that they had to postpone the first time.)

7. Lastly, I do think that posting on the Internet often shows the true colors and less tasteful side of a lot of people. I honestly have no idea how the Moderators deal with it. It must be like babysitting for your friends (who you really like) every night even though they have tons of kids and half of them are vomiting on the floor and crying all night. I think I'm going to go back to lurking as this has been an exercise in defending myself from crudeness instead of intelligent discussion. I really hope the Mods close this thread actually to stop the BS.

But even if Morrissey had played The Fly, how could that possibly be construed as a nod to U2 saying they'd play more 90s hits at Glastonbury? Why would Morrissey even give a remote fuck?

It is completely outside the realm of possibility. Moz's thought process would have had to have been: U2 said they were going to play more 90s hits at Glastonbury (which I'm 100% sure he probably never heard about and he certainly would care if he had). They had that ZooTV tour in the 90s. They played Satellite of Love on occasion... hell, I'll play it at my gig tonight in anticipation of their Glastonbury set.

Now sorry to be rude but do you not see how completely ridiculous that is?

There was no grammatical error in my post. At all.

So you are 100% sure that Moz never heard about U2's comments about that festival even considering that it is VERY rare (not sure that it has EVER happened actually) that they ever play at the same event?

Now THAT is ridiculous. How can you be 100% sure? What are you basing that on?

Even though that was a ridiculous comment, I actually appreciate that you are getting to the crux of the issue. I think some posters are making that same assumption and I have no idea why. I think (from what I know of him - I have read almost every interview he has ever done) that he is a lot more aware of the music scene (especially in reference to a gig he is playing at) than a lot of people here are giving him credit for.

Bottom line is that it appears as if the folks who attacked me are assuming I am the one who is not well versed on the subject when they are the ones who lack information.

"Projection"

(Through the light projected they can see themselves up close)

There was no grammatical error in my post. At all.

It is ridiculous to write that and then follow it with a fragmented sentence!

Are you sure that I am the one being ridiculous?! 100% sure!?

FROM AN INTERVIEW - JUST POSTED - WITH MORRISSEY THAT WENT LIVE ON THE INTERNET TODAY:

Morrissey on... Lady Gaga and modern pop - Telegraph

Daily Telegraph: You recently said a new album is “ready and fluttering wildly at the bars”. Does that mean you’ve recorded it?

Morrissey: No, it hasn’t been recorded. But it’s written. It’s ready to be recorded.

But there is no label, and there’s no label interest. And yes, one can be second on the bill to U2 at Glastonbury, but these days that doesn’t really inspire labels to come forward.

Because most labels want their own creations. They want people that they have found. And they want to give success to people that they have found. They don’t want to give success to somebody who’s already had it. That’s just the way it is.

AM I STILL BEING RIDICULOUS?!?!

All truth passes through three stages:

First, it is ridiculed.

Second, it is violently opposed.

Third, it is accepted as being self-evident.

GOODNIGHT AND THANK YOU

Is that your way of admitting that you were wrong? I bet you can do better than that!

I just don't think it worth writing a detailed rebuttal to something that is so obviously grasping at straws. Surely the response you're getting (from people who have track records of engaging in very intelligent discussions on this forum) should show you just how silly your claims appear? Your petulance when shown up for making a silly claim is not helping your cause. If you really think you're onto something, make your case rationally - something you haven't done yet.

I hope that is not your best example of an intelligent response...and I really don't care about their supposed intelligence in other threads. If you want to attack me about a valid point..and and are erroneous in your assumptions...you will ultimately lose.

Did you read page 7 of this thread? Moz just mentioned U2 in reference to the festival which proves the crux of my point...that he is more aware of the fact that they are both playing the same festival (and more informed about it) than many who attacked me for being ridiculous are giving him credit for.

I already factually proved that I am not the one being ridiculous...and that my second question especially has a lot of merit. He already mentioned them in regards to the festival and I still think their name will be spoken by him on the day.

Do I need to prove it again or is anyone here man enough to admit they were wrong. It is obviously not going to be you...

AM I STILL BEING RIDICULOUS?!?!

Look what you did. Look what you fucking did: the score has dropped to a 4/5 now. This is conclusive proof that your thread gets worse every time you post in it.

It's like you're trying to prove the existence of unicorns with a My Little Pony video.

Redhill, look, here's my major problem:

Moz didn't play SOL AT Glastonbury. He played it at a show a month before the fest even happens. The man doesn't appear to really like U2 so much as "envy" them in a way. You really think he played a cover of a fairly frequently covered song as homage to a band that he appears to be (according to the article you just posted) jealous of playing second fiddle to? Of all the tenuous connections, I just don't get it. I mean, if the man had played "Can't Help Falling in Love" or "Dancing Queen" would you be making the same asinine assertion?

I really wish you'd just admit that you didn't realize SOL was a cover so we can all move on with your lives. Your as bad as the guy who tries to claim that he calls U2 "The '2"

SO. Fucking. What?

Jesus Christ, every band at every festival ever mentions the headliners of the fucking show. I mean, for crying out loud, Mumford and Sons gave a shout out to Lady Gaga at Lollapalooza. Do you think they'll cover Just Dance because of it?

Holy shit, it's like you're using a My Little Pony video to prove the existence of unicorns.

Actually it went from a 4.2 to a 4.33 last I checked.

Errr..no it is not (I thought you were one of the sane ones) and that is a ridiculous likening.

Morrissey just mentioned U2 in regards to the festival in his most recently released interview which reflects that he is well versed on the subject (the crux of both of my initial questions.)

BTW, I still think Moz will play Satellite of Love at Glastonbury and that there is even an off chance that he will even mention U2 before or after he does.

Regardless, I am betting that he will say the bands name on that day at some point - even if we never see or hear it - which I bet we will....

I am also betting that..when that happens...no one who attacked me here will be man enough to apologize and admit they were wrong....

OK so the fact that I am going to be proven correct in regards to my second question (both were pooled as ridiculous by a few folks) is SO FUCKING WHAT?

Third, it is accepted as being self-evident...

You are wrong. If Morrissey plays Satellite of Love and mentions U2 with regards to it I will personally fly to your house and give you a blowjob. You are completely wrong and I'm starting to think you used to post as Moggio.

Is the goal of your life to acquire one of these?

"Not ridiculous" does not equate to a worthy thread. Although this thread has become worthy, no thanks to your contributions.

Immature and ignorant, but sane.

Can I use you as a reference?

OK, time for another lesson in reality.

1. My gut tells me that he envies them in a way and that is why he has never been able to admit that he admires them as well. Usually if he envies a band he slags them off but his slags in regards to U2 have been half hearted...which is unique for him for a band that is currently as popular as U2 is...I think he may finally admit to some fondness for them on the day itself...which will be a 1st and a big deal for me actually as I admire both artists so much.

2. You are (like many others did in asinine fashion) completely ignoring that I had a second question. Let's go ahead and call that "selective ignorance." The crux of my point for that question was already proved by an interview that was just released. How is my being proven to be accurate asinine?

Do you think the earth is flat? Is it an asinine assertion to suggest that it might not be?

3. Why in the world would I admit that I did not know SOL was a cover when I obviously and clearly did? I have known that since the ZOO TV days...

Is the goal of your life to acquire one of these?

I already have one hanging on the wall in my bathroom!

That is an absurd suggestion since I started the thread and I am THE ONLY ONE HERE to back my statements with any actual evidence.

Most everyone else's responses equate to "he so crazy - me know better."

Are you saying that threads become worthy based on crude and baseless attacks instead of intelligent theories based on factual evidence?

I guess you just summed up the general attitude of 90% of the Youtube video responses right there!

I expected more from this forum....
