i went to this rock concert and everyone was standing and smoking and drinking and singing. all i wanted to do was sit there and listen to the music. balderdash, i say. balderdash.

has anyone actually gotten puked on at a concert? i've been to a ton in my time, some fairly rowdy ones, and never ever even seen someone puke in the venue, durring the show. i'm sure it's happened, but i don't think there's this rash of drunken pukers just ruining concerts for everyone.

besides... perhaps they're not drunk. perhaps someone sneezed all over their pasta primavera.

Lets see I had folks peeing in aisle at Popmart tour. I got sick at NJ show with Clinton and UN chief. Blew it out right in front of the x pres. Plus i have seen people throw up on seats etc. My sickness was a virus no liqour. It just hit fast and hard. Glad I got out of the heart in time or would have been nasty. Still remember letting go in parking lot after show and people blowing horn as the drove by.
Anything is possible at a u2 show......
:hmm::doh:

I've been to concerts where people were rowdy drunk, high, and smoking cigarettes against regulations. I have smoked cigarettes against regulations myself (although never around children or people who objected.) But the worst experience I have ever had at a rock concert was with people who insisted on sitting quietly through the whole thing, like it was an opera performance. At least pot smokers don't do that.

I smoked when I went back to my hotel to put away my stuff when I was in the GA line. but that was around 1pm, so it had completely worn off by show time. I wouldn't smoke in the venue for fear of getting caught. Also, though it does enhance things, it can also mess with memory, and a U2 concert is something I don't want to forget. plus it often makes me sleepy which is the opposite of what I want to feel in the front row :p had I been able to obtain them I sooo would have taken shrooms though. not enough to hallucinate, because that's scary. but just a bit so that everything is vivid and intense. It's like weed but 1000 times better, and I remember the times I shroomed pretty well.

i'm not encouraging drug use, just sayin' but yea, drugs are not necessary to enjoy U2. They're pretty awesome on their own

if i drank too much i would puke wherever i was, concert or no concert... it has to happen sometimes no? i'm not against people drinking at concerts at all, but it's a pain when you get beer spilled all over your head though when there's one swaying guy carrying four pints in two hands on a beer run...

there were some really drunk guys at Paris one with backpacks on filled with beer, drinking through a little tube haha! they were very sweet and hilariously funny and we had loads of laughs in the queue... really nice guys, just enjoying themselves... but then the poor bastards were later deemed "too drunk" and were escorted out of the pit by security apparently... i felt really bad for them actually, as they had been waiting in line all day...

guess it depends on how folks behave when they're drunk - silly happy dafty drunk people are funny, but aggressive belligerent ones are not...

Never been puked on, but have been near pukers on a few occasions and the smell can really affect your experience. Also had a run in some years back at OZZfest with some stoned guy who was climbing over seats to get close to the stage while System of a Down was playing, clown fell while climbing over our seats and landed on my rather small wife. Then thought he'd just stand right there and take things in. Only time I ever got into a physical altercation with anyone at a show.
Both alcohol and drugs can be bad mmmmkay if they are overdone, as others have said moderation in either is the key, and respecting the space of those around you so as not to ruin their concert experience.

All that being said, still hoping to see hundreds of her toking up Sunday:

you make a good point about the fear of getting caught. a couple of my friends hit the pipe a couple times, but i just couldn't bring myself to do it with all the security roaming around. plus, i'm looking to change companies so the last thing i need is to worry about passing a drug test, lol.

Exactly. I can deal with the crappy smell, but if you start ACTING like you're in another dimension, then I have a big problem.

That being said -- if you're at a show like Chicago 2, then pot might only be detrimental to the experience. There isn't much you can do to enhance a show like that, and you want to remember eveything about it!

Great thread. I've enjoyed reading the posts.

I know someone who wanted to smoke at Chicago but didn't and still had a great time.

For Vertigo, I was drinking/drunk for all my shows and had a great time. This year, I'm seeing all my U2 shows (and all shows, including the show of life itself) completely sober and am having a great time.

I even saw a TOOL show this summer without "enhancements" and loved it, too.

If I had to compare, I'd have to say that sober is way better than stoned or drunk, but it took me more than 20 years of "research and development" to figure that. And when I was "out there," I would have said the opposite.

But to be clear, I must admit that I was extremely high this past Saturday and Sunday -- high on love and life and my favorite band just giving its all.

360 shows or 420 shows, this is an awesome tour. And yea for new Interferencers starting such provocative and successful threads.

has anyone actually gotten puked on at a concert?

Not on, but terribly near.

Once at a Kinks show back in the Dark Ages, and then recently at a Raconteurs show. Stupid fuck was so drunk he puked before they came on and his date had to leave with him. Thank goodness somebody wiped it up because it was stinking.

And more times than I can count, some drunk fuck had spilled his cheap, watery beer on my stuff under my seat. I've nearly slipped and fallen on spilled beer several times. So no, drunk fucks don't enhance my concert experience.

I smoked in the bathroom just prior to the start of a Vertigo show in Boston(guys in the stall next to me were doing some sniffing)...few songs into the show a mid 20's male behind me passed out and fell on me (I'm 6'1" 210 pounds) domino effect... I fell on the guy in front of me and the one in front of him I had bruised shins, ribs, and forearms also lost my full beer & my hat ..we were 2 rows from crashing in/or over the rear stage balcony rail ... the kid who started it all was " totally sober"..none of us made a big deal of it ..so for somebody to complain about " alittle smoke at a concert I say deal with it or explain a medical problem, you CAN NOT test positive on a drug test for second hand smoke in a large place...now I stated a little smoke ....

I feel that if I was high at a U2 concert, I might be so dazed out that I would kind of miss out on the reality of where I was. I mean pot helps you focus more intently on music and stuff, but I think I would personally rather experience it sober. ...and this is coming from a former pothead...

I smoked pot when I was younger, but now the smell of it gives me a headache, as does cigarette smoke (I smoked cigarettes for 14 years, but quit 6 years ago).

I have friends in the medical field (doctors, nurses, etc..) and they are randomly tested for drugs. They panic at even being around the smell of it and have to leave the immediate area. So I say, please I hope that you are not around us at the shows as it will have an impact on our experience as well.

There was tons of pot smoking going on in GA at all four of the shows I've just attended, nobody seemed to mind...and I agree with others here that I would much rather smell weed than cigarettes!

Yup, I've been puked on once by a drunk kid at an outdoor show. He was standing directly in front of me, turned around and tried to vomit into a water bottle. I had waited 2 hours in the July heat to see the headlining band and ended up moving from my prime spot because the stench was horrible and I needed to clean the vomit off my feet. I've also seen people around me puke before and during shows. I've seen drunk idiots start fights, pass out cold standing up and hit their heads, pass out and fall down the stairs between aisles, and fall forward into the people in the row in front of them. I've seen a drunk girl pass out in a planter and another one who kept falling out of her seat while her friends ignored her. Someone finally went and got an usher so the poor girl could be carried out. If I had to choose between a belligerent, puking drunk over a pot smoker, I'll take the pot smoker any day of the week.

And all of these happened at a pretty good cross section of genres and venues...U2 at the MGM Grand, Honda Center and Staples Center, George Strait at the MGM Grand and Social Distortion at an outdoor festival.

420 in 360

i suppose that i will be toking up during my show here in a few weeks. i have vowed a period of soberity until the show and for me that is a real dedication. I have promised a few beers before the show (maybe one or two) and then nothing until Blinding Lights. I then will enjoy the combustion products of the cannibis at that point. So if you are in the GA (inner circle) on Oct. 6th, and smell the sweet flavor of the sweet leaf, you will know it was me along with a few other people.

Note that any U2 show is good enough without further enhancement. But as many of us found out when U23D came out 2 years ago, a little pizzaz won't hurt. I promise to stay clear of kids, senior citizens, and medical workers (please wear your ID). As far as security goes, I will crotch the illegal festivies. I will enjoy enough to satisfy my soul and no more. Can't I sign a waiver just for this date?

As far as a first post, I am long term reader and first time poster. I enjoy reading everybody's responses. Thanks for breaking up the redundancy of my daily routine.

My friend checked with the people around us and they were all cool with it.

As long as you're not blowing it over the heads of people who will get irritated. U2 crowds are usually pretty good about pot.

A couple of people lit up in the Inner circle at Wembley and were told quite firmly to PUT IT OUT

Got talking to the security guy, he was saying that on the Friday someone lit up and was told to put it out. He caught him a bit later on and asked him to come over, at which point he thre him out of the stadium  Man that was harsh! I smoke, but love U2 more, so was it worth the risk?

I said to the security guy, the next one caught smoking, let me have a puff of it before he get's told to put it out
