Why do we choose the names we do for our children?

Carek, I think because of memories, honoring ancestors, names we like, names we wish we'd been given--just a few. I named my son Shawn because of my Irish heritage; back in 1969, I didn't want to spell it Sean, as it should be, in case people would pronounce it Seen. If he'd been a girl, it would have been Shannon.
