"Stewardesses" is the longest word that is typed with only the left hand.

'rule of thumb' came from old england where you couldn't beat your wife with anything wider than your thumb.
 
Dashing horses kicking up mud (among other things), splashing the passengers riding behind them, led to the invention of the dashboard, a term which survives today.

My pictures came out really dark in the bat cave that is my kitchen, but my sister tried it at her house, where she has a lovely window.
