I bought an USB device that neither Windows XP nor Windows 2000 will recognize properly. They find new hardware, but tell me that it's an unknown device, and it doesn't work. The device came with no drivers as it is supposed to be recognized automatically by Windows.

Any ideas?

I've had that problem before, it's a mystery.

I would suggest going to the website of the company who made your device and see if you can download the driver there.

Windows doesn't come with every device driver, but it's usually not a big deal. You said it is being recognized by Windows, so the plug-and-play is fine, you just need a driver. If it didn't include a disc, request one from the compay, or go to their website, search the model number and download the drivers there.
