Um...I think I need help...(for my computer)

So, as I opened my laptop and it came on from being "asleep", a bubble popped up at the bottom of my taskbar saying that new hardware was installed (it had a name, it was a bunch of letters) and that I need to reboot for it to take effect.

I never installed any new hardware. Is it a virus or something that I need to worry about, or is it just a standard computer thing?

I know its not the typical system update, it's different from that.

(I have a Windows XP).

Help!

Nevermind...I think I figured it out...the other day I plugged in a microphone to the laptop and it may have taken a while to register with the computer or something...I think that's it...

That could be it... Or just an automatic update from Windows.

My laptop re-registers the DVD drive from time to time. It could be something like that.
